Do I give the impression that I desire dumbed down entertainment? ;)
Well I agree, there does seem to be an entire generation who were brainwashed into thinking pretentious brooding and CGI explosions equals deep. We've really lowered the bar, lol. Anything that attempts to have a sense of...
Bottom line, when the leader and visionary of a franchise passes away, they aren't easily replaced. After Walt died, Disney was pretty much gone for two decades, and frankly, even after their comeback in the '90s, things were never quite the same. I watch Sword in the Stone or Sleeping Beauty...
Which is why Bay shouldn't have been let anywhere near this property, director or producer. He has no clue how to do fanciful characters (he barely knows how to do humans, and with women he's downright insulting). Fans have let him get away with far too much, it's kind of a crime, lol. He got...
Sure but I see this with a lot of actors; the public has this "recency bias" where their memories only stretch back so far. Suddenly 1990 is ancient history, lol.
I know what you mean, looking back not every '80s cartoon was brilliant. I've had my nostalgia bubble burst many times. Sometimes...
I agree actually. They are not voice actors, they are puppeteers first and foremost. Which is why I always thought they should have moved on to new characters, rather than do recasts. Obviously they did try to do that over the years, with varying degrees of success.
As always, it's a question of execution. Fozzie's always been a bit innocent, but more recent projects took it into the realm of dumb. The joke turned from endearing to ridicule. Comedy is extremely brittle that way.
Agree to disagree.
I guess originally when they needed to start recasting, they mainly kept it in the family, whereas companies like WB I assume generally audition voice actors from the outside who specialize in echoing iconic voices, like Bugs Bunny.
The other day at a Meetup group, I heard two people talking about the latest 21 Jump Street flick. They were quick surprised when I informed them there used to be a TV show, and starring Johnny Depp! I showed them a picture and they said, "Wow, he looks so normal." Lol
Plus, I'm constantly...
I understand Swordfry's point though. The way she ran away in terror when Constantine yelled at her was rather out of character and undermined her usual strength.
But don't worry guys, I will let my friend know the movie's out of DVD now. Even if I didn't connect with the film, I'm glad she was...
"You know that place between sleep and awake? That place where you still remember dreaming? That's where I'll always love you...Peter Pan. That's where I'll be waiting..." --Hook (1991)
Lynn Redgrave is one of my favorites - I often catch myself humming her song with Kermit.
Alice Cooper - Yeah, they managed to sneak a lot of subtext into that episode, lol.
I wouldn't say no one has been rude here towards people who don't like movies. But certainly this board is ten times more civil than most boards I've been to. IMDB is a disaster zone, lol.
Well you didn't see me or some of my friends back in the early 90s. ;) And plenty of fans on IMDB have often expressed their skepticism on recasts. Though really the issue has always been the writing, not the recasting.
Hey thanks! This takes me back. I watched this at The Museum of TV & Radio back in 2005 and told everyone in the RHLC about it (you can find it in archives somewhere, lol). Glad to see the video's finally available for others to see. ;)
Btw, that's where this photo came from...
I think the only reason Marvin Suggs feels worse than other Muppet violence is after awhile you start wondering why the other Muppets don't do anything to stop him, lol. There was that one Muppet complication VHS where Fozzie helps one of them to hide, and again you wonder why they didn't do...
