I agree actually. They are not voice actors, they are puppeteers first and foremost. Which is why I always thought they should have moved on to new characters, rather than do recasts. Obviously they did try to do that over the years, with varying degrees of success.

As always, it's a question of execution. Fozzie's always been a bit innocent, but more recent projects took it into the realm of dumb. The joke turned from endearing to ridicule. Comedy is extremely brittle that way. Agree to disagree.

I guess originally when they needed to start recasting, they mainly kept it in the family, whereas companies like WB I assume generally audition voice actors from the outside who specialize in echoing iconic voices, like Bugs Bunny.

Well you didn't see me or some of my friends back in the early 90s. ;) And plenty of fans on IMDB have often expressed their skepticism on recasts. Though really the issue has always been the writing, not the recasting.
