"I'm afraid of getting thinner/Won't you please become my dinner?" Yeesh...it seems as if whoever wrote Sparky's song for that cartoon intended to scare kids' pajama-pants off.
Cecile vs. the Orange
Actually, the singing orange (who has no official name) is different from Cecile, whose theme song implies that she's a rubber ball. They may have the same shape, same color, same imagined sex, and same interest in music. However, the similarity ends there:
The nameless...
I recently got a comment on YouTube about the "four-armed man counting to 20" cartoon: the other person swears it's existed since Episode 1 of Sesame Street. Now, I've seen Episode 1 (as a lot of you have) and know the cartoon didn't appear there. But did it appear on any episode older than...
I'm looking for more of the 1969-early 70s episodes myself; though I was born in '69, I can't remember the way Sesame Street looked and sounded when I was only ten months old! ;-) Unpaved (Noggin) episodes are OK, if you can burn them onto a regular CD in a format my PC will read: not only do...
I remember reading online (possibly in the Muppet Wiki) that episodes didn't get individual titles until very recently--sometime after Season 30, although the exact year escapes my mind. If my source is right, then any earlier episode title is unofficial (and #536 is much, much earlier).
I was shocked to find that out, too...on snopes.com, of all places. They've got an article called "Happy Birthday, We'll Sue" that explains the whole situation; the song won't become a public-domain work until the year 2020, apparently.
Given the way Sesame Street emphasizes healthy living now, I'd believe that a lot more readily than their teaching about religious tolerance: the only time religion comes up at all on Sesame Street, is on a few holiday specials.
You and me both...I also hope that Sesame Workshop gets enough permission from the celebrities who appeared on old shows, to include the episodes as they aired years ago. None of this replacing Stevie Wonder's performances with Grover counting chin-ups...:(
Good suggestions all round, Fragglemuppet, though I should have made one part clearer: it's the other characters who need a reason to hug Oscar, not Oscar who needs a reason to avoid them. Sorry for the confusing language!
 Oh...my...gods. Last time I cried this hard over a Sesame Street story, Big Bird was passing out drawings to his friends and wondering why Mr. Looper, ummm, Hooper couldn't get his.
Did anyone else catch the "Family Guy" episode with Peter and the cop character discovering seven, ahem, bad girls in Quagmire's house? The cop mentions how many there are, then a voice-over chorus of kids sings 1-7 as numbers appear near the girls. Not quite a Muppet reference, but it is a...
This may seem weird to some of you, but I've thought about doing a hug-themed fanscript for Sesame Street. Hypothetically, it's a "regular" episode (not a holiday/anniversary special) that could have aired in the 80s, before the huge format changes. Here are some bits and pieces I thought of...
Awwww....:concern: Here's hoping everything works out for the cast we all know and love. This story would make one heckuva 40th anniversary special; it's a shame Sesame Workshop won't accept outsiders' work!
I can always e-mail you a copy; please PM me with your address and the name of the program you usually watch video clips with.
I have a feeling that the falling Muppet in the background is meant for adults who remember the falling baker (and might be watching with their grandchildren). They...
Judging by the Muppet Wiki, Season 7 is when two-letter sponsorships became the usual rule. A few episodes featuring two letters aired during Seasons 2-6, but they weren't as common.
