Your Thoughts: Sesame Street Season 39

Stuck in reruns for several years before PBS drops it altogether, heaven forbid!

    Sesamestreet.org relaunches for Season 39

Even more ironically, Cookie Monster usually gets stuck teaching letter segments now...

Your Thoughts: Sesame Street Season 39

Yeah, something seems fishy when they've dropped the usual pattern for new episodes this year (M/W/F one week, T/Th another, and so on). You think it's a matter of production, getting the new tapes to stations, or both?

What sketches scared you as a kid?

That one didn't so much scare me, as make me feel sorry for Little Chrissy; the irony of his problem didn't occur to me until I was in grade school. As that girl in the wilted-plant cartoon said, "How could I be so duuuumb?" :o

Does Your Family Member have a fav. skit?

A few examples from my childhood: Mom liked to imitate the way I sang "ABC-DEF-GHI"; I must have really mangled Big Bird's pronunciation back then, because Mom's version ended with "ka-super-fizz". :o Dad used to sing the "Number Song" intro whenever he fiddled with a calculator. He'd press...

    Season 39 Character Questions

Right--the rock suddenly grew a (CGI?) face and suggested counting the balls, to make sure there were really 2000 of them. (Ironically, the delivery guy had said the rocks couldn't speak and count themselves!)

Your Thoughts: Sesame Street Season 39

Two more good points: With the focus on math skills this season, it's great to see counting that goes beyond 20; that happened often in the last decades before "Elmo's World", but almost stopped when the audience got younger. Guess the Workshop changed their mind about toddlers...

Your Thoughts: Sesame Street Season 39

I did notice that Max was only able to cover three kinds of basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, and division) -- and that he left nervously when the audience asked for a fourth trick. The adults must've known that it'd take Mumford's (or Abby Cadabby's) kind of magic to multiply...

Fix it Shop - Season 39

*nods* As long as people own something that's cheaper to repair than to replace, there's a good reason for the Fix-It Shop to keep existing on Sesame Street.

Fix it Shop - Season 39

There was a library next to the Fix-It Shop (or was that Hooper's)? in the Season 38 premiere, but I have a feeling it was a one-shot location.

Awww...*offers you a big hug* Sorry if this brought back any painful feelings! :concern:

What sketches scared you as a kid?

Tell me about it...To use my own Sesame-related example: In the late 80s/early 90s, I saw an episode with a very loose "Wheel of Fortune" parody called "Sight Word". The game took place on the street, with one contestant (Maria) and a Muppet host named Matt Playback. Since Matt was a one-shot...

What sketches scared you as a kid?

Hmmm. Your station must have either gotten a "bootleg" copy (as you suggested) or been one of the test-audience stations; judging by the odd scheduling, either reason could be true. I did a Google search for "Sesame Street" (exact phrase) plus ""Snuffleupagus", "divorce", and "episode"; even...

What sketches scared you as a kid?

You (or a younger kid in the family) must have been part of CTW's test audience, since all the online sources I've seen say that the divorce episode failed with test groups and never aired nationally. (Even Wikipedia's article on the subject--not Muppet Wiki, but Wikipedia--makes that claim; if...

Your Thoughts: Sesame Street Season 39

Agreed: that's got to be the worst episode of the season so far. The mathematical "magic tricks" looked as if Max weren't even trying; the Murray segment was too similar to the other sports-school trip, and the "dancing" cartoon...well, the sooner it gets retired, the better. Here's hoping...

What sketches scared you as a kid?

The big difference, though, is that children usually can't predict when someone they know is going to die (unless a family member is terminally ill and the doctor has told them so). Divorces happen more predictably, though, after a long period of trying to work out serious conflict--and the...

Your Thoughts: Sesame Street Season 39

True, that; the last time Cookie has definitely eaten a non-food item, it was usually one of those styrofoam letters from the sketches with Prairie Dawn. (Yes, those are three years old, but he also tried to catch/eat the sponsors in that episode with Leela and her camera!)
