Sam and Friends Book Read our review of the long-awaited book, "Sam and Friends - The Story of Jim Henson's First Television Show" by Muppet Historian Craig Shemin.
Well, one B&E's Great Adventure did briefly touch on pollution; when they ended up at sea, the mermaid criticized them for turning the ocean into a trash dump. That is pretty minor compared to the way they've taught other environmental themes though!
One thing that Jim probably woudn't like, in spite of his creating so many puppet mascots for commercials before: Sesame Street needing to depend on corporate sponsors and spend four minutes of each show crediting them with custom-made ads. If he hadn't died, he probably would've insisted...
I've had a few folks on YouTube ask the same thing, especially when I post Sesame Street ending credits. "Where's the PBS channel bump?" To tell the truth, only one episode in my collection (#2485) has a channel bump after the funding credits; everything else is a Noggin broadcast, which could...
Ironically enough for an old-school Sesame buff, I grew up frightened to death of the so-called tricolor PBS logo. You know the one: the loud trilling Moog notes, the letters appearing one at a time from nowhere... *shudder* When PBS finally changed their network identification bump in the 80s...
I'm seriously hoping that the street story carries the season finale this time, since the rest of each episode has followed a cookie-cutter format so far. If I had to sum up Season 40 in a single word, that word would be "anticlimactic".
Possible second gem in the "Jack Grows His Own Beanstalk" episode: Jack expresses frustration with his inability to find the right item, saying "I'll never get it, never, never!" Don Music-style. Granted, he couldn't bang his head against Leela's lap, but I expected those discordant piano...
To bring this back on topic: The recycling-bin rumor sounds even less credible than the other rumors I've heard about Sesame Street Muppets. It might have started when someone heard about the environmental theme this season, and expected the lessons to be as heavy-handed as the health lessons...
I for one would love to see Kermit come back once a season in some new Sesame Street material--if the Workshop can afford more than a ten-second cameo. Since Elmo technically re-introduced the "green frog" to a new generation of viewers, I hope that gives his popularity a boost!
Double standards? Well...I've seen both preaching and religion-bashing in threads where they aren't appropriate, and try my hardest to avoid either extreme. Yes, I belong to a non-Christian religion; but I don't go out of my way to complain when some of you include Bible verses in your...
The M obviously stands for Moneygrubbing, Monotonous, Mindless...good grief, I'm beginning to sound like Oscar the Grouch teaching the letter of the day... :grouchy:
P.S. Believe it or not, I used to call the channel "eMpTy-V" when I was in high school!
Even though a few Christians on this forum want to "share Christ's love" with others, I don't think that Muppet Central is the right place to preach ANY religion, Christian or otherwise--unless someone wants to discuss the theology in Jim Henson's work. I myself am a Norse pagan, but usually...
Ouch, what awful news! I also pray that Loretta Long will recover completely and be free from the pain that those updates mentioned. Even though she survived the accident, it would be a terrible shame if her character were forced to retire from the show: Susan has been part of the Sesame Street...
I've already posted my reaction to the Crikey article on my fan blog--

Although most of you have said similar things here, I agree with one point that was too strong to include in the blog post: parents...
Thanks--that episode aired when I was six, and came up in a conversation with a fellow fan recently. I wanted to make sure my memory wasn't way off-base this time. (Too bad Sesame Workshop never included the clip on one of their DVD sets; it deserves a little more exposure for the Snuffy fans...
Just posted the scan of CTW's official statement in my fan blog, if that's OK with you...

Snuffy sighting in old episode: more information needed!
Does anyone else recall an episode (from the early 1970s) in which one of the adults spots Mr. Snuffleupagus on Sesame Street? Snuffy was wearing striped pajamas at the time, which causes confusion when Big Bird asks where his friend has...
NA NA NA NA No kidding! As often as I've complained about Elmo dominating the show, I was glad to see him act like his old watchable self in that clip. However, Mrs. Freedman completely missed the point of the song--as several comment-writers have already stated. The "lullaby" framework...
Like most of the adults watching this season, I agree that Season 40 has been hit-and-miss so far...mostly "miss". Don't get me wrong; the street stories have been more entertaining than usual this season, and not just because of the hidden gems. It's good to see the older characters, human...
