Your Thoughts: Sesame Street Season 39

I saw all of the Hat contest episode, so here are more thoughts on it:

The Goods cont'd:
-Big Bird's letter/number intros were cool. Looks like we're seeing more of him and less of Elmo this season.
-Murray's line in the karate segment - "A newspaper stand? Are we gonna check our horoscopes?"
-30 Rocks was pretty funny. It probobly would've been funnier if I watched the show. I liked Jack's line - "There could be 50, or 100 or....3!"
-Grover the Weather Monster was nice to see again.

The Bads more:
-Ugh, what happened to just cutting to sketches? Most of them transitioned to each other.
-The "Have Your Ever" song was pretty bad. Though, I liked it being a parody of Cole Porter's "Friendship"
-I just knew they would start repeating those Murray segments.

I only saw the plot of today's, but I liked it. I liked seeing the appearences of Susan, The Count (both of them are usually in one street story a season), Grover and a Dinger.

I quess the bits with Big Bird reading were the clips they had in the Associated Press story about Carrol Spinney.

Awww. I missed an appearance by Susan and a Carroll Spinney reference. I have to tell you that my local station is messed up. I've been getting repeats of the show for the past few weeks when the TV listings online say that they're going to have new episodes. Also, I think that that they're doing the pledge drives this month when they usually do them in September. Maybe WVIA is waiting for those to be over so that they can show the new eps without interruptions. I don't know. I missed quite a few episodes this season which is why I haven't posted here that much. I hope my station plays some new ones soon so I can get caught up on this thread.

The mathematical "magic tricks" looked as if Max weren't even trying;

Well, even some of the well-intended jokes are missed by the target audience.

I did notice that Max was only able to cover three kinds of basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, and division) -- and that he left nervously when the audience asked for a fourth trick. The adults must've known that it'd take Mumford's (or Abby Cadabby's) kind of magic to multiply anything...at least, to do that in a way appropriate for Sesame Street!

Two more good points:

• With the focus on math skills this season, it's great to see counting that goes beyond 20; that happened often in the last decades before "Elmo's World", but almost stopped when the audience got younger. Guess the Workshop changed their mind about toddlers understanding larger numbers!
• Abby's accidental mention of the hat spell (and the result) was a pricelessly funny ending to the street scene.

But that's only 'cause Mumford accidentally causes things to occur & Abby is still learning.

Exactly the case. the point was this guy ISN'T really magic at all, but rather thinks he is, and uses the "wonders of Math" to show that he can do tricks. There's no way he would have been able to multiply without actual magic.

I won't be watching reviewing any of the episodes till i can get the Max episode or that is till i can get another DVD started to record on til i can get that certain episode. *still stitting by the TV* Oh and no poking me ok!
