    Commercial-Free Childhood at it again!

Well I don't know how it's working out, but there was this development in NYC in 2010: Kids Ride Free on New York City Transit http://thecityfix.com/kids-ride-free-on-new-york-city-transit/

Can Sesame Street go to Congress?

If that's what he felt "forced" to say, then why was he even meeting with people who thought that way? Not to mention indulging them? If someone baited me like that, I'd never respond the way he did. We will have to agree to disagree. I've had this discussion many times with people and know...

    Okay, let's talk about *this!*

VERY good point! : D I really don't agree that children should be "kept away" from commercials. If a child buys a product (or at least asks their parents for it) and it turns out to be a rip off, that child has learned the valuable lesson to not believe everything he/she sees. Would these...

Can Sesame Street go to Congress?

I agree that it was definitely entrapment. No doubt about that. But nobody forced the NPR guy to say the things he said. He shot his mouth off, the things he said were beyond sick and offensive, he should have known better and he deserves what he got. Sadly, neither side has its shortage of...

Can Sesame Street go to Congress?

I'm just very skeptical about PBS actually losing its funding. Again, the Senate and the President wouldn't support it. It's posturing from the right-wing. I'm not saying it could never happen, that would be naive I admit, lol. Just saying I'm skeptical based on past experience. And as a...

    The VHS Thread

I have a VHS of Disney's The Sword in the Stone, from roughly 1985. Before the film there is a preview for the live action 1985 film The Journey of Natty Gann (Wow, remember that?). Then after the film is over, there's this big promotional song for other Disney VHS's, with a montage of various...

Can Sesame Street go to Congress?

I think both sides have perfected the double standard quite well. And then are both good at implying they're the innocent ones. They're opposite, but definitely equal. There is no hero here. ;) Um well I hope that's not what all their listeners are saying. Some of the things he said I'd...

Can Sesame Street go to Congress?

Well we may never know the whole story, but they probably did the right thing removing those people. The guy wasn't just critcizing the Tea Party, he said a lot of very offensive things about a lot of groups. As a liberal, I would have asked him to leave too. But yeah, why should PBS suffer...

    The VHS Thread

Hmm, well according to the LA Times: http://articles.latimes.com/2008/dec/22/entertainment/et-vhs-tapes22 So A History of Violence was the last regular release of a VHS of a major Hollywood film. But then as mr3urious pointed out, films like The House of the Devil were later released on VHS...

    Peanuts becomes graphic novel

Understand, I'm a huge fan of Schulz's work. :) Doesn't mean every single strip he did was the best. It's hard constantly coming up with new ideas.

    The VHS Thread

What I liked about VHS's was you could buy an individual tape with say, two episodes of your favorite old TV show for a reasonable price. And then later buy another tape if you wanted. Not like today where you're required to buy giant DVD box sets that are $50, $60!

Nope definitely not a BETA; I've seen those several times at work. Plus this tape says VHS all over the box and plays in my VCR.

    The VHS Thread

I recently found two older VHS's at my library's book & video sale with some interesting features I'd never seen before. The VHS tapes seem to be copyrighted 1980 and 1982 (the films themselves are both from the '70s). One of VHS boxes has a small window slit near the bottom to showcase the...

MT: Upstairs Downstairs vs. 39 Stairs

Oh for me, definitely 39 Stairs! I grew up watching it when it was included on the Put Down the Duckie special. It also represents everything I always loved about Grover's humor, how frustrated and annoyed he gets when his demonstrations don't go their way. And how he always kind of blames some...

Why do School Choirs Always sing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"?

At the risk of being blunt, their own senses of humor should be called into question. ;)
