Yeah we also watched the A&E Biography on Poe in High School which definitely made me appreciate him more. :)
But even earlier than that, I think my first intro to Poe was from Charlie Brown and the gang, lol:

Lol, well that's not too bad. I always hate it when people complain about getting ::gasp:: B's! ;)
I'd recommend the movie 1776, it's pretty funny and educational. ;)

It used to be much more frequent in the 1800s. Remember the musical Rent? Obviously that's about AIDS. But it's based on an opera called La Boheme, when artists were being plagued by Tuberculosis.
Yeah sadly the all too frequent culprit was Tuberculosis. It's been rumored that Poe might have been a carrier but I don't know if that's ever been confirmed.
Well Fairly Odd Parents started out really good, but then it just got so sexist and disturbing that I'd never let a daughter anywhere near it, lol. It's a shame, but audiences have learned to settle for less in recent years and accept inferior products as quality.
I never felt it was scary or even supposed to be particularly. I just find the characters very endearing and enjoy the story about growing up but not letting go of childhood fantasies.
That's always the way. Take an oppressed minority and make them ten times better than the group to make up for past prejudices. And it's almost always a bad idea because audiences just end up resenting that character for being too perfect.
As far as My Little Ponies, I did watch it all the time...
Actually I'm still trying to figure out if that was the TMS era. The entire movie had this '80s feel that was nice but completely out of place for The Muppet Show, lol.
