Sam and Friends Book Read our review of the long-awaited book, "Sam and Friends - The Story of Jim Henson's First Television Show" by Muppet Historian Craig Shemin.
I liked the set for when Nina, Abby and Rudy were inside the clock. The idea that Cinderella has people that solve problems for her was funny to me. The new Foodie Truck segment was fun, especially Gonger getting disgusted at Cookie using olive oil on his feet.
The songs were the best part of the street story. The I Wonder bit with Grover and the turtle played by Johnny K was fun. I hope we get more like that.
Nice that they put the street story on YouTube, so people who don't have HBO Max can see it immediately. Jen Barnhart was the MVP of the episode, playing three characters in the same story. The song from Kelsea was cool.
Granted it's been a while since they've done parodies, but they could make more eventually. Elmo's been in every new cold open, but has he been in every new street story this season? Maybe Joey learned that they were doing the Not-Too-Late Show, which is more comedy based and less education...
I know this is wishful thinking, but what if after Joey left, he learned that Sesame was still doing parodies (just online now) and they weren't forcing Elmo into every single street story so he asked to come back?
Listen to this podcast from 48:20 to 56:51. Eric clearly thinks that Piggy is best portrayed when you see her secretly struggling. https://anchor.fm/toughpigs/episodes/To-Introduce-Our-Guest-Star---Episode-Eight-Eric-Jacobson-e12erk2
The virtual Sesame Gala is still online for now, but can someone please back this up so it can be preserved? The fantastic song performances shouldn't be lost to history.
Matt Vogel: Was there ever a time that you were doing Piggy or Fozzie in front of Frank? Because we talked how awkward that is.
Eric Jacobson: It is awkward. It's like "You're here, you should be doing this!"
Matt: "Why am I doing your thing for you?" Do you have something like that where that...
The cold open with Elmo being surprised that the Count likes the alphabet only to learn it's because of the letters to count was funny. Elmo taking Bert's oatmeal for the game while he was in the middle of eating it was funny. I liked how Cookie just ate a smoothie instead of drinking it in...
I thought Cookie having a friend made out of a kiwi and Gonger saying it seems like a nice guy was funny. It was nice to finally see some new Telly footage at the end of the show.
Stephanie stole the show as Amelia. I liked how since Abby and Rudy wore noise-cancelling headphones, the secret handshake in Amazing Adventures was slightly different.
