    Muppet Auditions: Los Angeles

I got as far as round two... Basically, I passed the lipsynching section, but got elimated on the monitor round. Of the ten people in my group, seven were puppeteers on the Playhouse Disney version of "Bear in the Big Blue House." I believe that all of them made it on to Round three. It was...

    Using webcam for puppet monitor

Sigh... I'm getting a little frustrated here. I ask a question and everyone answers an entirely different question. I know that monitor work is important. I have used them before and I have used them in the non-mirrored (Muppet) way. But I'm pretty rusty and would like to brush up and improve...

    Using webcam for puppet monitor

I think it was the ease of having it already set up and not taking up too much space that appealed to me. Also, I thought it'd be a pretty cool feature on my website if people could interact with the puppet once a week or something. Having never had a webcam, I wasn't sure how easy this would...

    Using webcam for puppet monitor

My real preference is to learn how to do it without being mirrored. That's the whole point. I just want to spend about $100 on a cam for the computer and not $500 on a video camera. My question was really if a cam would meet my needs. Steve

    Using webcam for puppet monitor

Hi! I auditioned in LA today for the Muppets and made it as far as working with the monitor before I was eliminated, leading me to believe that while my puppetry skills might be okay, my monitor skills need quite a bit of work. Anyway, I was thinking it might be a relatively inexpensive...

    Muppets Auditions Sept 2005+

One thing about doing it Friday night -- who knows how late the auditions are going to go? It could be a really late evening. Steve

I'll be around all weekend. I live over by LAX, so keep me posted on any get-togethers. Steve

So you want to audition for the Muppets?

I would think putting your best foot forward would be the thing to do. Why would they want to hear a voice that was only "sort of" what they were looking for? If you do a great Animal or Kermit, put everything you have into those voices. More than likely, the first day will consist of 30 seconds...

Stiching help would be gratefully received!

That looks to me like the thread ran out mid-sew and it had to be started and stopped again. You can tell because you have to backstitch a couple of times when you start and end a thread, otherwise it will unravel. If it doesn't hold anything together, you could probably take the entire...

    Puppetry AND Cartooning

I just found my paperwork for next year. It looks like the con is being held July 20-23 (with set up/preview night being July 19).

    Puppetry AND Cartooning

I'm still trying to figure out when the show is. I have some literature at home on it, but since I've already gotten booth space with others at this point, I won't be able to be in on the communal booth. The Tables are the best bet as far as I'm concerned. Lots of traffic and not a horrific...

    Puppetry AND Cartooning

SDCC pays almost nothing. You might be able to get in as a pro if you've had something printed. I've been able to get all my puppeteers in for the last few years claiming they were employees promoting my comic. A lot of it involves a little BS. check around for 3 people willing to share a...

    Puppetry AND Cartooning

I'll be part of the Blank Label booth, but if we were there -- either as exhibitors or guests -- we could get a panel together. I know people ask me as much about the puppetry as they do about the cartooning. On the drive back, I was thinking about some cool stuff we could do on the panel...

    Puppetry AND Cartooning

First of all, sorry to resurrect such an old topic, but I just got back from Comic-Con in San Diego and was struck with an idea... How feasible would it be for some of you to make it out to San Diego for next year's convention? As puppeteer/cartoonists, we have a unique plot of ground to...

    A Muppets Lifetime

I'm not sure that they incinerate the puppets after any given amount of time. I know that the foam begins to break down, causing the puppeteers to refer to the puppets as "toast" because the foam hardens and crumbles like burnt toast. At this point, I believe some of them are rebuilt from...

    Powered Puppet Movement

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the giant Animal head in "The Muppet Movie" was operated by Frank Oz with one hand. Apparently, the materials were so light that it worked pretty much the same way as the regular-sized version. I don't even think that there were any electronic components...

    London locations

Hi all, A friend of mine is going to London next week and was looking for some Muppet-related sights. Studios and locations from the Muppet show - Great Muppet Caper years would be great as well as addresses and directions to landmarks such as Jim Henson's old house and the bench featured in...

    I finally made a puppet!

This'll be the last of my hijacking this thread as well, but I wonder how many other cartoonist/puppeteers there are out there. A lot of people joke that I'm like the Ted Knight character in "Too Close for Comfort" that had a "Cosmic Cow" puppet that he used while drawing his comics. Ever...

    I finally made a puppet!

Good! The comic has been chugging along now for 21 weeks and I'm generally happy these days. I've been thinking seriously about making a new batch of puppets (aside from Mayberry, the rest of the cast was built back in 2000 and are showing their age). I also -- as always -- keep thinking about...
