How to make a puppet Stand?

There's a type of paper towel stand that I've bought int he past that basically amounted to a 14-inch pole in a 8-inch round base. I bought a bunch of them at IKEA at one time, but can't seem to find them on their site. Anyway, they work great for displaying the puppets if you can find them...

Like a puppet with NO strings :o

Are you sure there isn't another missing part of the controller? Just about every marionette I've ever seen has a single bar controller to control the legs. This way, the legs can move indepedently of the rest of the body while walking. Steve EDIT: Here's an illustration showing a traditional...

    Painting Eyes

I gotta get the puppet I've been working on done. You guys'll be amazed what can be done with those dumb plastic ornaments they sell at Michael's. And what's more, they're cheap, transparent (so you can paint them from the back) and they sell them year round. They also come in 3 and 4 inch...

    Wizard World Texas

Is anyone going to Wizard World Texas next week? If so, I'll be exhibiting at the Blank Label Comics Booth. And, if I get my act together, I'll even have the new Ralph done. Steve

    Elmo Replica Here

It's always been my understanding that if they clearly label it as a "replica" and not an actual Muppet, there's nothing that Henson/Disney can do. Otherwise, all those phasers and Han Solo gun replicas that are littered all over ebay would be taken off as well. I'm not saying this qualifies...

    Piggy Construction Question

Actually, that wasn't what I was talking about... Here's a handy little diagram that should clarify what I was asking: http://www.melonpool.com/BLC/Piggy.gif

    Piggy Construction Question

I've always wondered something about Piggy and other puppets made from foam. How do you connect the neck to the foam and make it seamless? It seems like there's no way to attach them without either using a lot of messy glue or a lot of messy (and not very strong) stitches behind. Steve

    Puppetry Audition Questions

So, I went on my second puppetry audition today (the first being the LA Muppet audition a few weeks ago. I was wondering if some of you had any advice... Basically, when I got there, I was handed two pages of script and told to do a young character with a higher-pitched voice (but not forced...

    Rowlf Puppet

You know, there is a preliminary sketch of Rowlf in Jim Henson: The Works on pages 32-33. The reason I mention it, is that it gives dimensions (8 1/2 inches to the neck, 12 inches from shoulder-to-shoulder. I don;t know how accurate those are, but it might be a good place to start. Steve

    Rowlf Puppet

I would check around for the 1970s Rowlf puppet on ebay. Even though it's smaller and wouldn't be operated the same way, it'll give you some ideas on materials and head construction...

    Celebrating Jerry Juhl

I was just commenting to the other puppeteers at the dinner last Saturday at how well Jerry Juhl had aged. He will be missed. Steve

    Puppet dinner

I couldn;t see it from my house, but there were Cop cars and fire engines everywhere that day. I used to work over at DIRECTV in El Segundo (which is right across the street from the airport) and they were evacuated. I live about 5 mils away from it. Steve

    Puppet dinner

I agree! I'd never been able to improv with puppeteers that I haven't known for 20 years before (most of the people I puppeteer at Comic-Con with I've known since I was in high school). It was really cool how easily we all worked off one another. At some convention in the near future we...

    Muppets Auditions Sept 2005+

Well, my reading of these message boards is spotty at best. :) I may have missed it. If I had actually recognized any of you at the audition, that might have been a good way to get myself invited as well. Steve

    Puppet dinner

Yeah, I'm glad you got pictures. I had a camera but never bothered to take it out of my pocket. I guess I was tooo busy puppeteering. Too bad there weren't any pics of the "MC" puppet in there. ;)

    Muppets Auditions Sept 2005+

My only regret was I didn't know about the MTR or Disney expeditions. I would have tagged along for those as well. I have some ideas on some future projects for some of the people at the puppet dinner as well. I'll have to stew over it for a bit... Steve

    Muppet Auditions: Los Angeles

Kevin was there at this one, too. I can't remember who the other people were -- but they were with Disney and The Muppet Holding Company -- not puppeteers. What number were you? I was 25. Steve

    Using webcam for puppet monitor

Thanks, blink! I didn;t mean to come off as a little ***** in my posts... it wasn't my intention. Truth be told, I'm thinking a little ahead of myself here. I need to work on my monitor work and I was thinking about getting an isight, so I was trying to kill two birds with one stone and...
