Advice on Simple Series puppet mouth

I usually glue the edge of the skin to the mouth palette (it overlaps about 1/2 an inch). I was surprised to find this is the exact same way that many professionals do this as well. I was able to intern a few years ago with a former Muppet builder who helped me refine my skills a lot.

    Making Java Muppets.

I've always wondered how they were performed. Rods? I assume that since they always appear on a black background that the puppeteers (or at least part of the puppeteers) are dressed in black in plain sight, but other than that, I'm at a loss. I would think that there is a hand or a rod...

    Making Java Muppets.

Look at this image: http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/muppet/images/thumb/d/d4/Javas.jpg/300px-Javas.jpg What about taking the dryer hose and feeding it through a pink nylon tight (or making a spandex tube)? You might have to glue it in place, but It looks sort of like that's the way they made...

    Making Java Muppets.

I believe the original ones (like the ones used on the Ed Sullivan Show) were white with colored boas attached at the ends. I know that they make white plastic dryer vent hoses in different diameters. They would be what I'd use, though I have no idea how to color them like the ones featured...

How to build SAFE puppets for kids?

I would avoid using glue for the eyes and features for someone that young. I also wouldn't put on arm rods. As far as the eyes go, I would think the doll-post type would be the most secure. Supposedly, once tightened, they aren't supposed to come off. I think that's what they used on the old...

    Puppet/Muppet Halloween Costumes?

Did anyone else do any Muppet or puppet-related Halloween costumes this year? So, far, this is the best picture I got of mine. More probably tomorrow -- along with my wife as Shari Lewis and Lambchop! http://www.melonpool.com/Halloween/Steve_Kermit.jpg...

    Modifying Eden Kermit Puppet

So, I made something of a tutorial for anyone interested in modifying their old Eden Toys and Applause Kermit puppets into something a little more usable. I'm totally on a kick to try modifying some of the other puppets I've collected over the years in similar ways. Maybe I'll start a blog about...

    My McCain Puppet

That's great! You should make a John Kerry puppet and do some Statler and Waldorf routines. I realuze I'm mixing Politicals here, but Obama doesn't resemble Statler as much as Kerry does! ;)

    Can Anybody Be Puppeteer?

I think it is something that can be learned -- although it's a lot more commitment than a lot of people want to put into it. I had to work really hard to get to the skill level I'm at now, but truth be told, I'm still not the best puppeteer in the world. I'm a much better builder than a...

    Modifying Eden Kermit Puppet

Here are the pics. Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures during the actual process -- or even any "before" pictures, for that matter. :( I had no idea I'd do so much to it when I started yesterday, I guess. Anyway, enjoy! http://www.melonpool.com/kermit/Kermit_2008.jpg...

    Modifying Eden Kermit Puppet

Hi all -- I've been away from the boards for a bit, but I did something really cool this weekend that I'd like to share... I was able to modify the old (1993) Eden Kermit puppet to make him a lot more usable and more... Kermit-like. I've had that old puppet for about 15 years -- even used him...

    Big Bird Replica Half-finished

I think Scooter can be patterned... actually, I think just about any shape can be made from flat foam. I've had a theory for quite some time that Scooter is a modified "Anything Muppet." If you look at the blue hillbilly characters in the first season you can see that their head shape is almost...

    WHOOPS! I need help...

This is how I got it out: Use Wool-lite carpet cleaner (it's the foaming kind). Use per instructions on side of can, but while it's foamy, take a brush (like the ones used for cleaning bathtubs) and scrub in every direction imaginable (up, down, sideways, in circles). You may have to do this a...

    Faux Fur color varigation effect

I asked a similar question a few weeks ago, and found a pretty good way to do it elsewhere. I haven't tried it yet, but he recommended making the hair out of white fur and taking (in my case anyway) a red sharpie and dabbing the color near the roots. You then put some rubbing alcohol on your...
