    The "hand-stitched hands" blues.

Agreed. I will likely just add a small loop in which a removal arm-rod will eventually connect. Oh, and my "fancy" palm-plate is a dissected chunky cardboard Sesame Street book my toddler chewed up, lol!

    Need help with puppet eyes

Hey, I meant to share this pic with the last post. Keep us up to date with your progress :)

My first completed "Glorified Sock Puppet". Feedback?

This little fellow is a complete blank. I have not given him a name nor a personality. I enjoy the build and am not so much interested in performing. He is hand-sewn, with an exception to the arms/hands. My next projects are all hand-sewn with an exception to any internal sleeves etc.

    A body for Fred?

Oh, and the only thing that sewing machine was used for is the internal sleeve. Every other bit was hand-sewn from the right-side of the fabric using the "Henson" stitch.

    A body for Fred?

So, Fred now has a body (and "scrubs") and I am presently at work fashioning him pose-able hands!

    The "hand-stitched hands" blues.

Awesome, thanks! This is exactly the approach I settled on (read as: resigned myself to). I just finished the wire to palm-plate procedure and need only sandwich and cement my foam after I decide on a removable arm-rod design. BTW, your Fraggle is the cat's pajamas!

    The "hand-stitched hands" blues.

I desperately (dramatic flair) want to use my "Henson" stitch to sew the hands of my current project, but I cannot figure out how to lay out the pattern in a way that makes it easy to dexterously maneuver about. I have machine sewn the arms/hands (only!) of my previous projects and I do not like...

Good Grief! *ANOTHER* Toodles Kermit replica?

I composed a thank you post earlier today, but I see it did not go up. At any rate, Thank You! Keep building!

    Muppet/puppet sizes

Agreed, Buck-Beaver & D'Snowth. Size it for comfort of the performer and control the perception of size within the performance.

Good Grief! *ANOTHER* Toodles Kermit replica?

Well done. Did you adjust the size of "the infamous dissected MR Kermit"? Also, any tips on calculating the size of the mouth-plate to match?

    Need help with puppet eyes

You're welcome. Oh, and I also like that the felt ones protrude a bit and add depth. Flat may work better for some.

    Need help with puppet eyes

Yes, I used electric tape on my first attempt. It was just a little to shiny for me. But, I guess it depends on how you will use the end product. Bright/low light etc. The sky is the limit with materials.

    Need help with puppet eyes

I use the adhesive-backed anti-scuff pads (for the bottoms of chair and table legs) that can be found at any hardware store. This is what is used in my avatar. I don't use these specific ones, but here is a link to what I am referring to. http://www.homediscountstor.com/images/kole/gc531.jpg You...

Are there "Unwritten" rules to being a builder?

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I am not encountering this problem here. I was however being mentored by an experienced builder for some time this year, but shortly after establishing my Photo-bucket account I got the cold shoulder. Knowing, as you mentioned how some people "hoard"...

Are there "Unwritten" rules to being a builder?

I am a new builder. I started this spring and have been enthusiastically attempting to learn everything I possibly can from the wonderfully helpful people I have encountered here and on the interwebs in general. I thought it would be fun to post pictures of my works in progress and techniques...
