The rebuild I've wanted to do for two years...

I think everyone starts the same. My first builds were based on pictures from the internet and when you see the workings, the joins, the different methods people use it is a lot easier than buying a pattern and thinking that you have to follow it exactly. I seem to remember that the first...

Let It Go? Elsa Puppet is on it's way.

It's been a while in the making between orders, but my version of Elsa from Frozen is almost complete. Rather than just go straight "puppet", i wanted to give her a more formed look, so she has curves and cheeks. There's just a couple of bits that need adding, but for now here is a teaser...

The rebuild I've wanted to do for two years...

I think during the builds it is great when you look back at them, the only thing is that while you are building they tend to look nothing like the puppet they are meant to be, usually until the very end. Even just without pupils they look wrong and you constantly question if you need to change...

    Texturizing fur.......questions!

No just more to make sure it is all still covered in water and not singing rather than boiling. You don't really see the final effect until it is dried.

    Texturizing fur.......questions!

Depending on what you are using, i tend to use a very large cooking pot which i fill with hot water and put in the oven for around thirty minutes, checking it every ten minutes or so. Obviously just have to be careful when putting it in and out of the oven.

    Cookie Monster head pattern

I made a basic cookie for a test puppet to test some lighting and studio equipment, and i used the skull from one of the project puppet patterns. I can't remember which one it is called off the top of my head but you can start with a flat piece of foam and pretty much cut darts in it until you...

    Texturizing fur.......questions!

I think the best way is always the boiling method. You can spray it with some kind of spray adhesive and ruffle it up so it dries in clumps, but it doesn't look great. To get the cookie, or elmo texture you really need to go down the boiling route.

    New Kermit Replica

No nothing different. I took about four different patterns and mixed and matched various bits to come up with the one i used, but it still has the middle seam. I also used standard anti-pil polar fleece as i am waiting on new Antron fleece arriving (although i have found polar equally as good...

    New Kermit Replica

I think it comes down to personal preference. The original Kermit did not have any padding, I think some of the more recent ones have. This one had a skull of foam cut to 1/4 inch just to hold the shape, so the back of the head is made up of hand.

    Rowlf Fur wanted

The best to go for is a high quality shaggy fur the right colour and boil it to get he right texture. It's got to be good quality though or otherwise it will just shrivel up. Probably something like this...

New Web Series presented by Ernie Gurnie

Once upon a time I created a puppet and called him Hamish McTaggart. Somehow in the following months he got involved in miming educational songs for money, and doing some video message work under the name Ernie Gurnie. Now after long last, for both me and him, we have a new web-series and a...

    New Kermit Replica

It had to be done at some point, and as i found just enough scrap fleece I thought it was time to put together a quick Kermit. This was without much of a pattern, but other than a slightly too short face, a bit of a rough edge around the inside of his mouth and small feet, he came together quite...

Do not buy from Creature Clones!

I think at the least a response isn't too much to ask. I've had delays on a couple of recent orders I've been doing for people - mainly due to having a new daughter which doesn't half scupper plans - but i I wouldn't just stop replying to mails. In the words of Robert Loggia (for those who...

    Audrey II Final Product

I'm thinking you're spot on. I've seen the puppet from the broadway show a few years back and that was how the stage two puppet worked. It makes me think of the Frank Oz quote that went something like "When you perform you're always hunched over, or stuck in a small box that's meat to be a...

    Looking to buy professionally-made puppets

Not wanting to self-promote but I also have my own puppet workshop and can give you a quote if you want to have a look at Old Enough To Know Better Puppets. The only thing is I am in the UK so shipping to the US can sometimes be annoyingly quite brutal.
