Sam and Friends Book Read our review of the long-awaited book, "Sam and Friends - The Story of Jim Henson's First Television Show" by Muppet Historian Craig Shemin.
The very funniest for me was the Super Grover sketch where he decides the best way to turn on a computer is A) run around in circles and scream at the top of your lungs, and if that fails B) hop up and down and say "Wubba wubba" (because it sounds so nice to say anyway) Others high on the list...
It's about time someone airs it again. The last time I saw it on TV was in December of 1998 when WWOR-9 gave it a whirl. Here's to hoping they make it a regular film.
What I've wondered for some time now is how he's able to always be around to introduce to the audience the show they're about to see, even those that otherwise little concern him (i.e., why would narrating them be impotant to him?) As I see it, most of these seem to happen around his swamp (but...
Not anymore he's not. The scene has been "corrected" in the current release, much as the petal trail Simba creates when he flops down and Aladdin apparently telling Jasmine she'd be better unclothed were fixed in earlier releases, so that now the minister's standing completely upright (although...
I haven't seen it on You Tube yet. I'm also not sure what the assistant's name is; this may have been his only appearance. On a more personal note, this sketch was the first one in which I--3 years old at the time--noticed a puppet's hand wires, which were clearly visible when the assistant...
I wouldn't quite say it went downhill over the course of a single year. The changes were a somewhat more gradual process to the Elmo-centric show of today. It seems to be a somewhat basic consensus that the last real "old school year," to term it, was 1989. Then there was a first transitional...
It was always a favorite of mine as well. Too bad we never saw how the ball was initially put into play on the roller coaster. I wonder how many takes it might have taken to get the shot right, as I would guess there were probably a couple of times the ball rolled off the track, especially at...
With all this discussion on which network had it first, I'd like to go the other way and ask:
-what was the last year HBO ran it?, and
-who if anyone holds the current broadcast rights?
And Fat Blue often faints at the end of the Charlie's Restaurant sketches whenever Grover goes a little too far. I think Grover might have also fainted a lot when their roles were reversed.
I do vaguely remember it from my early days watching the show; given that I was born in 1982, this means they must have rerun it through at least 1985. The only thing I can clearly see is R2-D2 polling past Oscar's trash can and receiving the typical insult, although because of the passage of...
Sounds interesting. I'll need to know more about plot specifics before I fully commit to seeing it, so anyone who finds anything mroe specific out, please post them here.
And don't be too worried about Mokey, I think; if indeed Brian and Lisa will be steering it, she'll be in the front with...
It seems I'm not the only one then who saw versions where the numbers didn't enlarge enlarge at the end, then. Does anyone in fact remember at least one time where the spies didn't fade out after opening their coats? I think it happened once or twice.
Yes, Muppet Treasure Island was the last one with the Kermit head company logo. :) I think it was introduced some time around 1990. Did the earlier features have the HA! ident attached at the beginning or just the distributing studio's logo, does anyone know?
In that case it's good to know I did succeed in making an entertaining story (figured I might as well keep the thread alive so others would still be able to find it).
How about Newton's Apple and Square One ("The story you are about to see is a fib, but it's short...")? Anyone watch them too?
At any rate, PBS's lineup for children in the 80s was near perfect. They should seriously consider putting more of them back on in the afternoons today instead of...
