What kind of foam for a carved head?

Hey Brian, Just a simple 12" x 12" block of polyfoam will do the trick. I am sure there are foam stores around you that you can order it from. Otherwise, there is a place here in Burlington that I know of. It sells what you would need.

What Comes First ~ The Puppet or The Script ?

This typo is driving me nuts, more than any others I have done. It should obviously be "you're" not "your". Sorry.

What Comes First ~ The Puppet or The Script ?

Hi Enchanted Gypsy, In my opinion, your are trying to tell a story first and foremost (using puppets). That would lend itself to the idea of writing it first. Just like in a play, you don't usually ire actors and say let's write a story to fit who we have. You write the story and then...

    My First Youtube Puppet Video

I loved it! The music was perfect, the puppet movements were simple but entertaining. As a bit of a critique (I realize you didn't ask for one so I hope I do not offend you). I would like to see the camera (the framing) zoomed in a little tighter. That would hide the puppeteer at the...

    Dyeing foam & fabric problem

Try having the foam pre-soaked in hot water to make sure that there are no air pockets in the foam. I work all the bubbles out with the foam submerged in a tub of clear water. You should find that not only does the foam "not float", but the dye solution is able to soak all the way through...

Does anyone have a Kermit head pattern?

Project puppet also has (now) an optional body pattern, that is much like Kermit's.

    Another Project Puppet Contest

This looks fun. I bet there are many here who are planning to enter. Perhaps no one wants to let their idea out of the bag. These contests are becomming serious business.;)

    Noreen Young Interview!

Thanks Cory. All of that information is good to know. It makes it easier to understand what happened. Like I said, there are some good elements in place. I look forward to seeing how you guys tweek things. All the best.

    Noreen Young Interview!

As someone who knows Noreen, I was excited to hear that you were interviewing her. I listened to the whole podcast and have mixed rections. I hope you will take what I am going o say as "constructive" and not as "critcal". Overall I think the podcast was well produced. The sound quality...

John Kennedy & Hensons Join for

Looks great. I'd like to see it as well. I really dig the behind the scenes pictures, especially of the set build and decoration. That barn and landscape is something special.

    rod puppet mech

I've tried on Pepe and I would have to disagree with that. He is actually a fairly complicated mech to operate. There was not just a simple ring on a string. Your hand also needed to be in an "engaged" position (with the mechs) to actually hold him in a neutral position. You needed...

    A Shout Out to MuppetCast

This video actually is from Tom Stewart, but I did a little post on my blog about a video shout out I did for Steve Swanson over at MuppetCast. CHECK IT OUT

Take A Peek Inside My Workshop

I think being safe should be applied to all situations of course. But I also think that the average puppet builder using contact cement runs the same risk (if not a bigger risk) in the home with light switches or plug outlets if there is a large build up of fumes. Let's face it if anyone...

Yep. It works really well. I would love to see pictures of your worshop when you are done. I just feel so much better when things are uncluttered.

Thanks. I have quite a number of monkey puppets. I like that guy a lot myself. He is great to perform with.

Take A Peek Inside My Workshop

Thanks every one for the nice feedback. I've found over the years that things in the workshop had gotten too cluttered and had actually limited my creativity. It may look "too clean" but my goal was to only have things I absolutely needed. Things are put away neatly and I have a good...

    Whoospiedoodles

In a way you could say I have been doing it for over eight years. I am also a primary grade school teacher (kindergarten, grade 1 and grade 2). I've used puppets in the classroom and have done assemblies for years. Perhaps not exactly what you are talking about, but applicable. I find kids...

Job title? Or, a puppeteer by any other name...

I agree. Puppet Builder for Maddy and Creative Director for yourself. Brian, As you have already noted the fact that your company is a puppet company implies that your "creativity" (be it building, performing, writing, etc.) is associated with puppets. I think that a tricky thing...
