The Food Thread (Non Instagram Edition)

One final word on sour candy. When I was little, I liked Charms sour balls. They came in a little can of twenty. Thing is, they weren’t sour. Not even the lemon ones. Charms was more famous for their lollipops. Remember the Sesame clip of Lefty reciting the alphabet to his boss? And he got a...

I don’t know if we covered this or not, but how many of you like sour candy? In my younger days, sour candy really didn’t exist. The closest you had were Smarties. They were a little tart, but not sour. Same with Sweetarts. Not enough to really make you pucker. Then in the late 80s there were...

None Like it Hot: The "I Hate the Heat" Club

It’s not so hot here, but the humidity is a killer. But in New Jersey/New York this is par for the course. It’s not gonna catch you by surprise. For over a hundred years, the way for New Yorkers to beat the heat was take the train to Coney Island. The train’s final stop was Ocean Avenue in...

My wife loves Buffalo wings, so as long as we’ve been married, we have Frank’s hot sauce. Not for me. I’ve had sauces hotter than Frank’s, but it’s harsh.

    What made you angry today?

Redd Foxx’s walkout has been pretty well documented. At the time All in the Family was the #1 rated show, Sanford and Son was #2. Norman Lear and Bud Yorkin (the shows’ respective executive producers) were partners and eventually gave in to Foxx’s demands and matched his salary to Caroll...

It’s been a while since I had a McDonald’s burger with ketchup. I’d rather have a Big Mac or a chicken sandwich. But I don’t remember any burgers I got being drowned in ketchup. It ‘s also off-putting to see people drown their fries in ketchup. It looks like something out of a horror film.

    What made you angry today?

The one cool thing about Redd Foxx and LaWanda Page, they had a friendship going back decades. They did a lot of shows on the chitlin circuit together. But when Fred and Esther started taking shots at each other, they really got into it.

    What made you angry today?

It happened on The Odd Couple too, whenever there was a big star like Howard Costello. But Happy Days was off the rails. I can see cheering for Fonzie, … but Potsie????!!!! I loved Kramer’s entrance. He didn’t just walk in, he SLID. Awesome stuff.

I used to be happy with just ketchup on a burger. No cheese. As a little kid, that’s how plain I was. Now if I order a burger out (or make one at home), many restaurants have some version of a Southwest burger. Cheddar, fried onions, and BBQ sauce. Plus some lettuce to make it healthy.

    What made you angry today?

Oh, talk about shows jumping the shar. That all traces back to Happy Days. The first couple seasons they were firmly entrenched in the 50’s. Richie and his high school pals Ralph and Potsie and everything was fine. Then they graduated high school, everyone went on a trip to California,and...

Peanut butter and jelly on a hot dog, there’s actually a place in Disney World where you can get that. If you like ketchup on your hot dog, I can respect your choice. Since I was little, it always seemed wrong to me. But then I can justify mustard on a hamburger. To each his own. Even further...

The Classic Electric Company Memories Thread

One other skit with edible letters. Judy was sitting at a table with the word “breakfast “ in front of her. She crumbles the letters into a bowl, pours some milk, and we’re starting our day off right.

    RIP Charlie Watts

I wasn’t the biggest fan of The Rolling Stones, but I always admired Charlie‘a drumming. Since 1962, when this jazz drummer decided to join a rock and roll band, Charlie was there for all the hits and every show. Unlike his bandmates Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Brian Jones, Charlie never got...

    What made you angry today?

I was too old for Thomas/Shining Time Station in 1989 when it first came out. But I can appreciate the models and sets, and Ringo Starr and George Carlin’s narrations. It was a children’s show an adult could watch without puking. At the same time, I thought Barney was garbage with nothing to...

    COVID-19 Coronavirus News and Updates

Just announced today, the Pfizer vaccine has been FDA approved. That was one detail that stopped many from getting vaccinated before. What might happen now though, is big companies or governments issuing vaccine mandates. I’m all in favor of you getting the vaccine. Yes feel it’s more...

Boy, is this forum dead today or what?

I’ve been on this site from 2004-10, but was always on the fringe of things. I went away for two years, came back in 2012 and slowly became a bigger presence. One thing that struck me a few years back was someone’s wish for this forum to return to “The good old days”. But that’s an intangible...

    COVID-19 Coronavirus News and Updates

I’m probably the oldest here, probably more susceptible than others. But I’m still protecting myself with the vaccine. After that, it’s in God’s hands. I’ve said since Day One, I respect the virus, but I don’t fear it.

But you’re setting yourself up not to like it. If you expect it to be crappy, it will be. If you expect it to be a waste of money, that’s exactly what it will be. It’s like drtooth a few years back. He mentioned he was going to some therapy sessions for one reason or another. He didn’t expect...

You don’t have to eat tomatoes. They can leave them off. I don’t eat tomatoes either. If I’m eating out and I order a salad, I specifically say no tomatoes. That’s easy enough for them to handle.
