I hate to double post, but I just remembered on that was maddening.
Street Fighter: Legend of Chun Li
Now, the reasoning behind making this movie makes no sense. Sure, Capcom is riding a huge tidal wave of nostalgic popularity of the Street Fighter video game series, seemingly at the expense of their other famous hit, Mega Man. But that only really happened a couple years ago, before the film was released. Secondly, it's not like the first one was a hit. It's not even enjoyable in an ironic way, and proved that video game based movies are 90% of the time insanely stupid and pointless (Tomb Raider got lucky... at least for the fact that Lara Croft actually LOOKED like Lara Croft). Thirdly, they cast a not Asian girl to play an Asian girl (how come there weren't cries of that until Avatar: The Last Airbender the movie?) Fourthly, it's in name only... fifthly, who was that even intended for because the fans of the video game would refuse to see it, and there are thousands of better kung fu/martial arts movies out there. And sixthly, it's apparently even worse than the terrible first Street Fighter movie that bombed and was only remembered by an irony loving internet.
Also of note... it seemed like this was supposed to be a series of terrible origin stories. Were they thinking this was going to be the next Resident Evil movie franchise? One that I don't understand either?
All just totally confusing. No wonder Nintendo refuses to let anyone make a movie based on their properties ever again. At least they learned their lesson from that Mario film.
