I did something more productive than most people yesterday, I went to the gym and ran a good ol' 8 1/2 miles.

It's just another day in the year, and it's just paid attention by those who aren't getting that attention from their significant other. Why show the one you love on one day when you're supposed to do it everyday?

Heh...here it comes again, folks. I saw the V-Day decorations in Walgreen's the other day and immediately I thought of this thread.

Hopefully everyone has something fun to do, even if you don't have a date this year. You can always watch old SS clips online if nothing else.

Now I wonder would it be better to stay home and watch SST clips or attempt to ask out someone I've known for a total of 5 days.

The Shoe Fairy - Ask the person out! Who knows!

As for me, I will be sitting at home and being grumpy, as usual. I'm trying not to be too grumpy, unlike the last two Valentine's Days, but I'll still be vaguely grumpy. This marks my twenty-first year of being single on Valentine's Day. No bueno.

Aye, I will most likely be sitting at home feeling ever so slightly sorry for myself. But I wouldn't let my family know that :stick_out_tongue:

I must've completely grown out of being depressed and just feel completely indifferent. I honestly don't care either way about this holiday anymore. I just wish the stupid valentine sets came with Posters like they did 2 years ago. I'd've got that Phineas and Ferb set so fast. Not even wait until the after Valentines clearance for it.

Wow, lol, you know just the other day I thinking about this thread.

I'd be lying if I said this corrupted holiday didn't bother me. But at the same time, I'm healthy and successful and you never know what will happen in life. I'm just going to turn my head and wait and for Easter, lol.

Yeah... stupid day doesn't mean anything. Can't even say it was corrupted, it was always commercial. It's basically an excuse to sell stuff. It's just THAT excuse to do THAT... and the holiday loses it's charm when you're WAAAY too old to buy those little cardboard cards and give them to your grade school class.

Speaking of which, anyone ever notice there's always that "I don't like you, but I'm obligated to give you a card" cards that say "YAY! Super Happy!" or "Cartoon Catchphrase! Valentines Yay!" ? I luckily never got piles of those, but you know what I'm talking about. There's always the "You're always gonna be my best friend" card, the "you may NOT be my best friend, but you're friendship/acquaintanceship is important and meaningful on some level to me" card, the "Girly without being lovey dovey" card, even the big double sized Teacher's card that's on the back of the box. But always with the "Oh YAY! I don't like you, hope you're not offended, this is a contractual obligation" card with those random "Happy Time!" messages that have nothing to do with Valentines day.

You're just now seeing Valentine's Day decorations in the stores? I've been ignoring them since the first of January!

But... CURSE YOU CONVINCING JOHN FOR REMINDING US OF THIS THREAD! ! !

Okay, not really, I'm just joking.

Personally, I've become a bit of a full-on Scrooge when it comes to V-Day, as I no longer believe in it at all. Like heralde said, it's a corrupt holiday. Like saying for one day out of the year, you have to really show your significant other you love them... but the other 364, you go back to ignoring each other at the breakfast table, go back to the nightly "How was your day today?", "Meh, how was your day?", "Meh", etc. Not only that, but for people who grew up unpopular like I did, Valentine's Day can be seen through the eyes of Charlie Brown; "I know nobody likes me, why do we have to have a holiday to emphasize it?" That was especially true in middle school. In elementary school, the whole class who have parties that day, fix up little construction paper mail boxes, and give out a little folded paper Valentine with cartoon characters on them to every single person in class... in middle school, on the other hand, you were lucky if you even got ONE of those kinds of paper, cartoon character Valentines from a friend or two, while all the popular kids got showered with large stuffed animals and balloons and candy and other crap like that.

Plus not only that, but V-Day can almost put you into a big financal rut like Christmas, because every year, girls are going to EXPECT their guys to get them with flowers, chocolates, AND/OR jewelry... all of which adds up. Actually, when you think about it, whereas a lot of the true nature of Christmas being the celebration of Christ's birth being drowned out by the secular traditions of buying presents and such, V-Day has also lots it's message of appreciating your loved one being drowned out by buying lavish, extravigant presents... it's like V-Day is like Christmas in February.

I know I sound bitter in my post, well, I am... again, I don't believe in Valentine's Day anymore; it's a fun little holiday for having cupcakes and punch and such at your little desk, but once you're in Grade 6, it's tough cookies.

Valentine's Day. Bah humbug.
