Chapter Four:
After a long night, a very long night in which no one got any sleep it was now 8:00. There were still no signs of Robin or his kidnapper. Kermit and Jimmy prepared to face the public.
“This is a Muppet NEWSFLASH. Robin the Frog, nephew of famous Muppet Kermit the Frog, was kidnapped near his home in Hensonville last night. An Amber Alert has been issued and anyone with any sort of information is asked to call the police immediately. We now join a press conference in front of the famous Muppet Boarding House in Hensonville for a statement from Kermit and Robin’s father, Jimmy the Frog. Let’s watch,” said the Newsman leading into the conference.
Tons of reporters and cameras stood out front of the house where Kermit and Jimmy stood in front of several microphones.
“Thank you all for coming. As stated already, yesterday evening around 8:00 pm, my nephew Robin was kidnapped from about two blocks from here. We do have descriptions of the potential captor available because of two friends who were with him at the time. The Hensonville PD is working round the clock to find my nephew and bring the individual who did this to justice. I ask that you would all please respect our privacy during this time. We need to keep our phone lines open. Production on our movie is on hold for the time being. And now my brother Jimmy would like to say a few words,” said Kermit and then stepped aside so Jimmy could speak.
“Hello. I’m Jimmy the Frog, I am Robin’s father. I sent my son here to live with his Uncle years ago because he wanted to be an actor and I knew that he’d be brought up in a safe and loving environment with more opportunities than we could give him back home at our swamp. Robin is a very gifted boy and this was the best place for him to grow up. And I still believe that even after this happened. Whoever you are that took my son, you have made a horrible mistake. Not only did you take away my son from my family, you have taken away the sense of security this town has always relied on. And I ask you,” said Jimmy and then his voice cracked.
Kermit grabbed his shoulder and was ready to step back in, but Jimmy took a deep breath and continued.
“I ask you, please, don’t hurt my son. Please bring him back to us. He’s a good kid and he does not deserve this. There are good folks here ready to help you; you don’t have to be afraid to just bring him back to us safely. Please. I beg you. Send home my son,” said Jimmy and then stepped away from the microphone.
Kermit then stepped back forward.
“I want to say something to you, whoever you are that saw it fit to take my nephew as well. I understand it’s possible you did this because you wanted to hurt me. Well then, come back here and deal with me. Don’t put a young innocent frog in the middle of this charade. I’ll talk to you. We can do this the easy way,” said Kermit. He kind of hesitated before continuing. He hadn’t run this next part by the police.
“Or we can do this the hard way. You will be hunted down and brought to justice and gosh help me, if you have harmed my nephew in anyway, shape or form, you will regret the very day you decided to mess with the Frog family or the Muppets,” said Kermit a little angrily.
His friends standing by were a bit stunned. This was not Kermit. He didn’t ever speak in this fashion. He was a gentle, peace loving spirit. But, he was also an uncle in shock. And more scared than he’d ever been in his entire life.
Kermit cleared his throat and continued again.
“Anyway, once again, to the media and others out there, we appreciate your concern, but please, no further questions at this time. We will come back if we have more information. Also there is a specific tip line set up, if anyone has any information, you can feel free to call that. Thank you all for coming,” said Kermit and stepped down with Jimmy.
The reporters shouted out “Kermit! Mr. The Frog!” but Kermit stuck to his words of no further questions.
“And there you have it, words directly from Kermit and Jimmy the Frog. The tipline is 1-888-1234. Robin, wherever you are, we hope you are safe. This concludes this Muppet Newsflash,” said the Newsman concluding the broadcast.

Things settled down after the press conference. A few people decided to take naps after being up all night. Police set up headquarters in the kitchen. Kermit decided to escape for a few minutes to the porch.
He walked back and forth for a moment watching rainclouds passing by. The weather seemed to fit at the moment.
He sat down on the porch swing and then quietly started to sing.
"God on high
Hear my prayer
In my need
You have always been there
He is young
He's afraid
Let him rest
Heaven blessed.
Bring him home
Bring him home
Bring him home.
He's like the son I might have known
If God had granted me a son.
The summers die
One by one
How soon they fly
On and on
And I am old
And will be gone.
Bring him peace
Bring him joy
He is young
He is only a boy
You can take
You can give
Let him be
Let him live
If I die, let me die
Let him live
Bring him home
Bring him home
Bring him home."
He walked over to the edge of the porch and started talking.
“Jim, I don’t know if you can hear me, but I really wish you were here with me right now. I’m so scared Jim. I don’t know what I’ll do if Robin…if Robin…gosh I can’t even bring myself to say the words. I hated myself for sounding so harsh today at that press conference. I know that’s not how you taught me to be. But you have to understand, he’s my nephew. MY NEPHEW! I will do anything to bring that horrible person to justice,” said Kermit. He wanted to cry, but no tears were left.
Suddenly he felt a paw on his shoulder.
“Hey,” said Rowlf quietly.
“Hey,” said Kermit equally soft.
“I miss him too,” said Rowlf and Kermit knew he wasn’t talking about Robin.
“I just wish he was still here, I feel so alone without him to lean on,” said Kermit.
“We’re all here for you Kermit. Besides, he is probably watching over Robin for us,” said Rowlf.
Kermit didn't say anything for a moment as he continued looking to the sky. Then he turned back to Rowlf.
“You’re very wise my friend,” said Kermit and went back into the house.
Rowlf now himself wandered over the edge of the porch and could swear he saw a rainbow in the cloudy sky.
“Keep him safe Jim,” he said, “Bring him home.”
