Odd, I got a repeat of Big Bird and Snuffy's talent show insted on a new episode. Hopefully, the 12 airing will be the new one.

Today's review.

Episode 4172: The Number Six Games.
Airdate: September 30, 2008.
Season: Season 39.
Sponsors: Q, 6.
Word on the Street: Half.
Street Story.
Obvious Elmo's World nod.
Nice half-time show.
Maybe Inga can talk to the Swedish Chef, they both seem to speak a sort of mock-Swedish dialect.
Telly: "I'll be forced to resign in disgrace."
Song: Six Penguins in my Shirt.
Seems Telly's protective neurosis from Baby Bear's birthday carried over to this episode.
Film: Kids hand-clapping, "Ooh, I'm so happy."
Celebrity Moment: Shandra Wilson and Murray explain "half".
Nice to see that Murray has a bit of a destructive streak like Herry.
Healthy Food Animation: Grapefruit, which aren't sweet.
Number of the Day: Gina gets six meatballs and a 6 in her spaghetti served by Alan.
Song: "Six" by the Count.
Animation: Suzy Kabloozy gets a 6 from the judges, yech.
Song: "Addition Expedition" by LL Cool J and Elmo.
Nice, I prefer Born to Add, but this was a good song.
Film: Kids talk about how to become friends.
Murray Has a Little Lamb: Going to Drumming School.
Didn't the first part remind you of an old SST film segment?
Animation: Drumbeat Follow the Leader with Traction Jackson and his grandfather.
Letter of the Day: Gina tries to have her lunch in quiet, then rambles on about "quiet" and the letter Q until the sponsors pop up.
Unknown Segment: Voices repeating the letter Q with nice background music.
Segment: People keep saying "quack" until María shouts for "quiet".
Seriously, we need newer letter and number segments.
Muppet-Kid Moment: Abby and Kaela sing the alphabet.
Animation Song: "Baby, You're Great".
Elmo's World: School.
Ending: Leela gets surprised by the cheerleaders when announcing the sponsors after taking Gina's laundry.

Seems Telly's protective neurosis from Baby Bear's birthday carried over to this episode.
His Neurosis carries into every episode :smirk: .... that's why I like him...

Very odd storyline and even odder execution of it. Sesame street is known for it's arbitrary holidays, and today was no exception. Looks like they actually learned the art of subtlety... they haven't been forcing the Math curriculum down our throats half as much as the healthy habits or reading stuff. I love how they have all these nice little nods to more complex mathematical properties like division and fractions. Having the number three take the audience aside and explain that they'll encounter this later on in their education was brilliant. Almost wish they could add in some multiplication at some point... maybe another skit about counting by 10's or 5's or something.

But make no mistake... this had some of the weirdest stuff I've ever seen on Sesame Street. A 6 penguins in the shirt song? Fantastic.

Though other than the Murray, the Word on the Street, and the LL Cool J stuff, the filler was pretty dull. I guess they didn't bring their A game to the number section because there was enough six in the opening to make the number of the day 36... or maybe 39... (adding the three). But the Q stuff was a yawn fest... especially that ballerina segment. And capping it off with an old EW.

Once again, great new footage, meh on the reused stuff. And anyone else think they only had that EW because they mention LL Cool J in it?

The Goods:
-An okay storyline, not one of my favorites this season. I liked Telly's penguin song.
-Gina's spaghetti mishaps were funny
-I liked the LL Cool J song
-Murray was very nice too

The Bads:
-C'mon, we get 6 minutes of Murray already, some one else could've helped the celbrity.
-Not to many good segments included.

Well, I have to say, at least it integrates him into the rest of the show, instead of just the cold opening and his segment. We didn't really see too much of that, outside of the Texas Telly episode... and even then, it was almost like his dialogue was looped... he didn't have too much of an interaction...
..at least it wasn't Elmo... :smirk:

Starting to get back into watching the show. I have most of the episodes recorded but till i finally get that Magic episodes i won't watch any of the other episodes till i do.

Last night i watched the Baby Bear's Birthday and really enjoyed it. I can always love Baby Bear and Telly. Cool episode.

Just a few hours ago i watched the Big Bird and Snuffy Talent Show and loved seeing "Wolfgang." He's always been a favorite of mine ever since i saw him back in the day.

Haven't watched the 6 Day episodes. I'll watch it tonight when i get off here.

Not for me, I've found that in recent seasons Many male storylines revolve too much around the two.

Today's review. A question first... Was there a new episode yesterday, 4173 we all missed out on? Or was today's, the Nest Sale, #4173 instead?

At any rate...
Episode 4174: Big Bird's Nest Sale.
Airdate: October 2, 2008.
Season: Season 39.
Sponsors: X,
Word on the Street: Curly.
Street Story.
Finally, a good core character episode. Big B, Radar, Snuffy, and my namesake.
Hmm, looks like the main mathematics master is a big spender, he paid ten times what all 20 toys would've cost.
Good bit with the monsters at the playground.
Even the monster youth see MI, Monster Investigation? That speaks to my own TV-viewing education.
Film: Things are outside and get put inside containers.
Celebrity Moment: Neil Patrick Harris and Elmo explain "curly".
Song: Fixing My Hair.
Letter of the Day: Rosita comes back to buy the letter X at the nest sale.
Film: X/x in the Pool.
Animation Song: X German Polka.
Murray Has a Little Lamb: Going to the Science and Nature Program at the American Natural History Museum.
Animation/Film Song: Dancing with the Flowers, why do they insist on keeping this as part of their segment rotation?
Number of the Day: Rosita buys a 2 from the nest sale as well.
Animation: Egyptian Snakes with the number 2.
Song: 2, Me and You.
Bert & Ernie's Great Adventures: Cavemen searching for food.
Song: Eat Your Favorite Fruits, did this really serve anything?
Elmo's World: Up and Down.
Ending:

It was utterly amazing to see another Big Bird-centric plot this season. They really are making progress.

Now, some questions arise...

Why would the Count give away a teddy bear BEFORE he has a chance to count all the other toys? And knowing Big Bird, wouldn't he have asked him (later, of course) if he really wanted to give away/sell one of his top 2 most prized positions (the other being the picture of Mr. Looper)?

Anyway, who was the one that called it? The thing about them re-using the letter of the day footage this season, because it looked dubbed? I called that one as soon as I saw the "Nest Sale" sign as the show began.

Neil Patrick Harris does it again on SS... they better write him a cameo for the new Muppet Movie (considering he co-stars in How I met your Mother with one of the writers).

And I really loved the claymation segment... it brought back Caveman Days Ernie and Bert (at least, I'm sure they looked the same)... plus a nice little nod to The Flintstones (the car they were driving to escape the Dinosaur, incase anyone missed it).

The bad?

Reused Murray....reused letter/number segments/reused Elmo's World... and that stupid "Dancing with the Flowers" segment. Didn't they use it at least once this season? or are all of them so identical, they blend in together?

It was nice to see a :wisdom: and Snuffy type show, with the Count along for the fun in today show.

I have to say I was impress as it shown just how fragile the Bird is with his personal possesions.

Plus the return of Caveman Bert and Erine was a nice surprise a well.
