Thanks for answering Kyle. Actually I think Big Bird's Nest Sale is 4173 whereas Abby thinks Oscar is a Prince is 4174, as the airdates indicate that the nest sale takes sequencial priority.
It's can't be. My episode for "Big Bird's Nest Sale" shows 4174. I have proof from the TV. I haven't watched it yet because i'm trying to agrange them in order but i fastforward the episode so i could cheak the # and it showed 4174. The next episode is "Slimey Gets a Pet" which is episode # 4175. So they skipped the Abby episode. And also Muppet Wiki has the same episodes in order as they are spoused to air.

Hmmm... That's interesting Kyle. Glad to have confirmation that the nest sale was indeed 4174, and that all stations seem to have glossed over 4173 where Abby thinks Oscar's a prince. BTW: Because of this confusion, I went to Muppet Wiki, and they do have all Season 39 episodes in perfect numeric order. But when I went in to check/read through the synopses, I was baffled to find the airdate for 4172 programmed for September 30, factual in and of itself, but 4173 listed as October 7—today's date— and 4174 scheduled for October 2—last Thursday, when it actually aired. So you can naturally understand why I was perplexed, added to because of my blind batty eyes unable to verify episode numbering on my own. The last I was able to do so under my own power was back during the calypso opening sequences/seasons.

Guess we'll all sort this out as the season wends its course through the second half now.

Well, DrTooth's schedule sort of matches my local station's afternoon airings of the show. The trouble is I'm busy this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon so I probably won't see them and my VCR doesn't record. So I guess I'll still have to wait longer to see some new eps.

Today's review.

Episode 4175: Slimey Adopts a Pet Bug.
Airdate: October 7, 2008.
Season: Season 39.
Sponsors: W, 15.
Word on the Street: Frightened.
Street Story.
Points for the self-reference with the ladybugs at the bug shelter having a picnic.
Sissyfus? Huge points from me, the mythology buff.
Oscar: "I wonder if dirt's bad." How can a grouch think that?
Film/Song: You'll Find Bugs Everywhere, nice catchy tune.
Film: Kids examine some bugs.
Film/Animation/Word Explanation: I'm not frightened anymore.
Letter of the Day: Dirty digs a W for "worm" for Slimey.
Film: Which of these things begins with W and tastes great for breakfast? Waffles.
Animation: Wiggle like a W Commercial. This I actually liked.
Murray Has a Little Lamb: Going to Farm School.
Unknown Segment: Bird gets help from a little girl.
Number of the Day: Dirty writes a number 15 with Gina watching.
Oscar: "Rome wasn't ruined in a day."
Film: Marching 15 Parade. If these are mythic animalian creatures, please help me out identifying them.
Film: Kids painting 15 mural, if that's what it is I think.
Muppets: Abby makes a dolly for Elmo with her magic.
Film: Kids take care of their siblings and pets.
Global Grover: Australia, Animal Rescuers.
Muppets: The Twiddlebugs want to get a pet caterpillar.
Song: Happy Happy Happiness.
Elmo's World: Pets.
Ending: Oscar, Slimey and Dirty present the sponsors.

How much cute can they cram into this episode? Slimey's already high on the kawaii-ometer.... now he has a smaller bug? To quote Scott Leadready the second, "I can't have a pet! I am a pet! I can't have a pet! I am a pet! I can't have a pet! I am a pet! "

Anyway, nice episode, though I saw the Ladybug's picnic thing coming from a mile away. I like the fact they have throwbacks to it, but please, please, please use the real Ladybug's Picnic instead of just referencing it.

Oh yeah, and just as I promised....

YEEEEEAHAAAAAAAAAHAAAAAAAAAHAAAAAUUUUGH! Will they either STOP "sponsoring" higher numbers, or make new segments for numbers 13-19? Those kids painting a mural with feet and numbers is so overused it has stretchmarks. Half the kids are in college by now. Did they retire better skits like the African Masks counting to 20, or the weird animal number things counting to 20? I never get sick of those.

Plus, I will say, I hate this new "Guessing game" alphabet segment with the kids bouncing around. Like the cartoon's art design and all. But I just think it's too long, and we have too many examples of what the wrong letter is.

But other than the opening segment and that Elmo and Abby segment, nothing remarkable, just reused.

The problem? It seems that--as with anything else these days--older skits are frowned upon.
Sad, but true: the best we could hope for now is a remake of the "Ladybugs' Picnic" sketch in a different style and medium (not more cheesy sand/paper cutout CGI, heaven forbid)! I was glad to see a brief reference in the bug-shelter scene, too--although it would've been even better to have a full dozen Muppet bugs gathered in the shelter and singing the original lyrics. They could've even used 12 as the number of the day, since the length of a season (26 shows) gives the writers slightly more "wiggle room" with number sponsors. (And yes, I agree fully with Drtooth's opinion of those "number mural" clips; the second I hear that background music, I reach for my remote! :grouchy:)

Before we get way off topic, I wanna see a focus group of kids who watch timeless skits like Ladybug's Picnic vs kids that sit through the mural skit endlessly..... As if repeating the same dumb thing from the 90's (The 90's, by cracky! it's far from recent) is any different than something timeless.

Though I will add to Norden... if they HAVE to remake Ladybug's Picnic, I wanna see Pixar do it, under the supervision (and character design) of Bud Luckey (he's a Pixar employee! Check out the Incredibles DVD!)

That said, I wish they had new Global Grover segments. Something that would have better fit this episode's theme would be a trip to Japan to talk about the Japanese children's hobby of collecting bugs as pets.
