Scene Nine

Location: Sesame Street Park

Time: A few moments after the last scene

At Rise: Prairie Dawn stands next to the stage, alone and looking sort of sad. There is a little bird sitting on the edge of the stage. Kermit enters.

Prairie: Oh, dear.

Kermit: Gee, Prairie Dawn, what's the matter? The show is a hit. Everyone loves it. You should be happy.

Prairie: I know, but I didn't get to do the meaningful number I wanted to do.

Kermit: But you made everyone happy with what you did show. That's sorta meaningful.

Prairie: I guess.

Kermit: Don't feel too down about it, Prairie Dawn. There's only so much you can do sometimes.

Kermit exits.

Prairie: You're right, Kermit. There is only so much I can do. And that's not much of anything. Oh, what can a little thing like me do that means something to people?

Bird: You shouldn't feel so bad. There's alot little things like us can do.

Prairie: Like what?

Bird:

(sung)

Every song the world sings,
Each was once unknown.
Somebody felt a song inside
And wasn't afraid to sing alone.
If you feel the music
And you sing it clear and true,
Then the world can sing
With you.

(spoken) Give it a try.

Prairie:

(sung; very slowly at first, then building up to the song's usual tempo)

Every song the world sings,
Each was once unknown.
Somebody felt a song inside
And wasn't afraid to sing alone.
If you feel the music
And you sing it clear and true,
Then the world can sing
With you.

One small voice
Can teach the world a song.

Both:

Start with one small voice,
Till another sings along.
Then you'll feel the music
Growing full and sure and strong.
One small voice
Can teach the world a song.

Hoots the Owl and Herry Monster enter.

Hoots:

No tune is too simple,
No voice can be wrong.

Herry:

Music can come from any heart,
And anyone's voice can lead the song.

All:

If you feel the music,
And if you believe the words,
Sing and you'll
Be heard.

Telly, Elmo and Cookie enter.

All:

One small voice
Can teach the world a song.
Start with one small voice,
Till another sings along.
Then you'll feel the music
Growing full and sure and strong.
One small voice
Can teach the world a song.

The entire cast enters.

All:

One small voice
Can teach the world a song.
Start with one small voice,
Till another sings along.
Then you'll feel the music
Growing full and sure and strong.
One small voice
Can teach the world a song.

Prairie:

One small voice
Can teach the world a song.

Scene Ten

Location: Sesame Street

Time: Shortly thereafter

At Rise: The entire cast is onstage, with the exception of Grover, Bert, Ernie, the Count and Zoe.

All:

(sung)

La la la la la, la la la la la la,
La la la la la la la!
La la la la la, la la la la la la,
La la la la la la la!

Sing,
Sing a song.
Sing out loud,
Sing out strong.
Sing of good things, not bad.
Sing of happy, not sad.

Sing,
Sing a song.
Make it simple
To last your whole life long!
Don't worry that it's not good enough
For anyone else to hear.
Just sing,
Sing a song.

Grover rushes in.

Grover: Maria! Everybody! I have something wonderful to share with you!

(sung)

I just got a postcard,
Do you know what it says?
"Hello, Grover.
How are you?
I am fine.
On vacation!
It is cold.
Love, Amy!"

Maria: (spoken) That's fantastic, Grover!

Grover: (spoken) Oh, yes!

All:

(sung)

La la la la la, la la la la la la,
La la la la la la la!
La la la la la, la la la la la la,
La la la la la la la!

Sing,
Sing a song.
Sing out loud,
Sing out strong.
Sing of good things, not bad.
Sing of happy, not sad.

Ernie and Bert enter.

Ernie:

Somebody come and play!

Bert:

Somebody come and play today!

Ernie and Bert:

Somebody come and
Smile the smiles,
And sing the song.
It won't take long.
Somebody come and play today.

All:

Sing,
Sing a song.
Make it simple
To last your whole life long!
Don't worry that it's not good enough
For anyone else to hear.
Just sing,
Sing a song.

The Count and Zoe enter.

The Count:

Counting is wonderful.

Zoe:

Counting is marwelous!

The Count and Zoe:

Counting's terrific, and how!
I am pleased to announce,
You can add up amounts.
Put some bounce in your life and start
Counting now!

All:

Sing,
Sing a song.
Sing out loud,
Sing out strong.
Sing of good things, not bad.
Sing of happy, not sad.

Sing,
Sing a song.
Make it simple
To last your whole life long!
Don't worry that it's not good enough
For anyone else to hear.
Just sing,
Sing a song.

Prairie Dawn:

'Cause one small voice
Can teach the world a song.

All:

Start with one small voice,
Till another sings along.
Then you'll feel the music
Growing full and sure and strong.
One small voice
Can teach the world a song!

I positively LOVE it, Super Scoot! It's just AWESOME! I'm sorry I'm just now getting around to reading this, but I really, REALLY enjoyed it! All of the songs you chose were just fantastic! Thanks so much for writing this--it would make an AMAZING actual musical on stage! Thanks man! :super:

Thanks, Ryan! Glad you liked it.

It should be longer, but, there are spots where it already seems like it's being stretched for time.

Bravo! Bravo! *throws roses at SuperScrooter's feet* This is the kind of show that Sesame Workshop ought to perform live for the kids; I'd bet that only a few diehard fans would miss Elmo. I do wonder why Mr. Johnson disappeared from the "Fuzzy and Blue" scene (just standing on stage doing nothing?) after his complaints to Grover; otherwise, you've done an awesome job linking the songs together. :sing:

Hey...

:boo: Why are you yelling "bravo!"?
 Joe Bravo, he owes me $5, he's sitting there in the third row... Bravo! Bravo!
