And following its debut, other shows lampooned it (A! parodied via Super Strong Warner Siblings).

But back then the paradores were good ones, IMHO, I actually would not have minded if that became a running serious comedy series . I didn't feel like it tore down the lovable campyness of it

Agreed. That's what I liked about A!--and its "sister" toons--it made subtle jokes for adults, but also used the classic toon fare that many generations grew up on. The problem is that most adult humor anymore is that which is balatant toilet humor, numerous sexual-related themes, and intense graphic violence, none of which A! really had. I mean, yeah, they did have sexual innuendo via Hello Nurse & especially Minerva Mink, but they--especially the latter--were mere backdrop characters and even when they did show up, the network had the appropriate parts of their anatomy censored or covered in some way, whereas most [adult swim] shows go over the fine line & remove the subtle-ty from humor.

I remember back in the Summer of 85, Nickelodeon aired a Power Ranger like special called Dynaman. There was Dyna-Red, Dyna-Black, Dyna-Blue, Dyna-Yellow, and Dyna-Pink. And they showed the real Japanese actors and actresses who were dubbed in English. I thought it was neat seeing them operate a giant robot and fighting monsters and I hopped it would be a regular series. A few years later, The Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers came on FOX.
Of course, Haim Saban knew that having it completely dubbed footage isn't the way to go. He was the one who bought it up (I'd say from Toei, since they had a very famous live action studio too... but I don't know if they did PR or not...I know they did some wacko version of Spiderman), and added the Angel Grove kids.

4Kids tried the straight up dub of the footage with Ultraman Tiga in 2002, and it bombed badly....

But what from 4Kids hasn't bombed horribly? XD

And FYI Will, Ferbus is to Masked Rider what the furry little owl-like thing is to Gremlins.

4 words... Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. That's the one thing I'd say they got essentially right.

Still miffed Ultimate Muscle wasn't a success.... Had to get the rest of the toys from Canada....

Though to 4Kids's credit, it was one of the 3 shows they actually released on DVD uncut with original Japanese dialogue.

The whole idea of the Fastforward series would cause me to disagree.
