Regarding the sets, they looked relatively the same, albeit bigger and more fancy. Same with the suits.

Another Saturday morning moment:

The [Mighty Morphin'] Power Rangers (aka Super Sentai in Japan).

And note, this was to be before they became tired and old hat!

Though, granted, even the original show was lame, but back then, the show was beyond cool, even despite its lameless (as it spawned numerous figures, comics, video games, and even a feature-length movie).

I mean, who--as a kid--didn't want to own a giant mechanical robot to kick some obscure alien or monster behind? ^_^

I mean, it was like Transformers meets superheroes...almost. XD

Sure, it supposedly was what ended SatAM (though rather, what really ended it was the mere fact that the new ABC management hated anything that was on before its tenure & used the ratings of the red-hot MMPR--which aired on FOX, of all places--as a way to save face for ending the series prematurely), but even when the best Sonic series to ever be produced was still on, the MMPR gave it a run for its money & some fans watched both programs quite deligently.
Well, Power Rangers pretty much came out in the 70's, when live action robot shows were all the rage. Ultraman (which I prefer) came out much earlier. i believe it was the 60's, but I'm not 100percent sure.... I know Kamen Rider also preceded the Sentai Rangers series... too bad when Saban tried to Americanize that, it was a miserable flop... due in part the addition of too many stupid furry monkey puppet things... I hope the next company making the new Kamen Rider series doesn't screw it up that bad...

I loved Power Rangers:smile:. I really don't care that their show was not the first of its kind (I don't really care how new or old shows are in relation to each other) I think it did many things well :excited:...My favorites of the first series were the Pink and Green rangers :3.

The only other series that I love that was a spin off of it is Mystic Force. I got hooked on watching the subtitled version of its real show Mahou Sentai Magiranger (Go fight Magi, magi, magi ranger : D!) I still have to finish watching it but I love green (he is such a sweet guy) and blue so far :excited:

Off topic... but only slightly... I've noticed that Saban also had a hot yen to dub a lot of Tatsunoko properties at the same time. I know about Samurai Pizza Cats, and The Adventures of Pinocchio... plus, there was something about a Genie that they only dubbed for Europe and Israel. Too bad they never touched any of the Time Bokan shows.....

But it seems they dubbed Samurai Pizza Cats, almost to run along side Power Rangers (- and as this clip will illustrait they aquired the rights at about the same time). Considering that it's a mock sentai show.

I remember back in the Summer of 85, Nickelodeon aired a Power Ranger like special called Dynaman. There was Dyna-Red, Dyna-Black, Dyna-Blue, Dyna-Yellow, and Dyna-Pink. And they showed the real Japanese actors and actresses who were dubbed in English. I thought it was neat seeing them operate a giant robot and fighting monsters and I hopped it would be a regular series. A few years later, The Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers came on FOX.
