At the show on the whole, you mean, or at the vendor?

Most of the items at the booth from Closter were things needed for making quilted tote bags; I admit that if I hadn't noticed the sign on the booth wall, we'd have passed it by. (And before you ask, I looked them up later on - shop only opened eight years ago, so they wouldn't have been the puppet-selling fabric shop that Jane mentioned in the tribute show.)

At the whole show, there were some really nice quilts on display - you had the basic muted patchwork kinds you'd find on your grandmother's sofa (and which my own gran preferred), and some more vivid numbers done in batiks (Mom and I really like those), and a lot of "art quilts," the kind meant to hang on the wall. One person made even made one called "Hooked on Caffeine -" it was a fish, made out of used coffee filters!

Cool, I really should make up my mind to learn how to quilt or something. It must feel really good to create something like that.

Just wanted to share, I've had a rather interesting week. You see, for the past few months I've been staying up much too late at night. I knew I wasn't getting enough sleep, but I just couldn't bring myself to turn off the TV and go to my room. I was beginning to despair that I would ever break this unhealthy habit.

Then last Monday night, I accidently ended up watching a rather scary show on TV. I am kinda sensitive (as you've probably noticed) and it freaked me out for the rest of the night. In fact, I was so disturbed, I couldn't bear to stay downstairs when it got dark!

I felt like a chicken, but I made the decision that, until I got over the fear, I would head up to my room much sooner and just hang out with my computer for awhile until I felt like going to bed, which ended up being much earlier!

Now, it's not be fun, certainly not. But when I think about it, I was having trouble going to bed early. And it's almost like God was saying, "Ok, I'll make it easy for you!" Lol. And perhaps, someone else was also saying, "Shut up and do it!" Lol

, but that would be just like Richard to shock you into it like that, wouldn't it?

Congradulations on finally adopting a Statler, and I'm glad it was still there when you went back for it! I know what you mean. I'm very big on signs, and getting the right energy from things.
Thanks for those clips. No offense, but I didn't want to watch the memorial until I knew what it was, and when I found out, I wouldn't watch them. But yes, I do believe you found them for a reason, and it was good that you got to see them. Hmmm, there seems to be a lot of stuff available publically now that was never meant to be. The Fraggle cast party, the MV3D soundtrack, Jim's memorial... Piculiar...
I'd seen the outtakes before; hilarious! Yes, I wonder if there are more? I'm sure there are somewhere!
I'd seen the Up and Down Song before, but not the other one. Senor Flamingo = love!
Ah, so that's what the Bedtime Stories are? It's advertised sometimes in the Amazon frame at the tops of threads. Is that how you got it?
Ah, Craig Shemin, now he's a great guy to hear speak! Anyone else besides me ever have the privilege? Was he ever on the Muppetcast? I can't remember.
Speaking of stories about Statler, there are a couple of things that I want to post myself, but I have to find them first, which might take some doing, lol.

Ah, Erin, good luck with your paper! I didn't think about the singing fruits and vegitables at first, because when you said food, I was actually thinking about the type of food that you eat! Silly me!
 Yes, you might talk at length about the Swedish Chef, Marvin Sugs's singing food, and even mention the champaign into gingerale thinking of Fozzie in TGMC. Then maybe talk about the fraggles' love of raddishes, Boober's interesting recipies, and the use of raddishes and other ingredients in doozer sticks, and likewise in the constructions doozers build from them.
Then somewhere in the paper, you could even mention the "food" puppet used on SNL, and possibly on Fraggle Rock?
There! Just arrange it propperly, add in a few sighted sources, and I've written your paper for you!
 You can pay me later, lol!

Sarah, good luck with your new job! Not only does it sound like the kind of job I'd like, but the hours are not bad either. Okay, so they're long, but I'd rather work at night than in the morning. Lol, I'm rully not a morning person!

Finally, phew! I should check in here more often, so I have less to reply to at once! No offense, I love you guys, it just gets a bit tiring typing all this at once!

I'm one step ahead of you, Kate; I've had that stuff written down in my notes for at least a week. :smirk:

Other things I've been chewing on (so to speak): all the diet jokes centered around Miss Piggy, the appearance of a live cow on TMS, Lew Zealand's boomerang fish, Scooter's clarion call of "Popcorn, get your fresh organic popcorn, only a buck!" and the makings of a steering wheel souffle. And that's for the Muppets alone; I've got a ton of stuff on FR, and a few tidbits on SS.

I also want to look at the history of food as comedy: why do so many acts have people getting hit in the face with pies or slipping up on banana peels, for example?

Definitely, though I think the store employees must have thought I was crazy the way I kept examining the merchandise, lol.

Oh I totally understand, that's why I tried to keep it low key. But thanks for the reassurance, hehe. Yes, it IS quite peculiar!

Ah, so that's what the Bedtime Stories are? It's advertised sometimes in the Amazon frame at the tops of threads. Is that how you got it?
Yup, I ordered it through Amazon. Though I'm thinking of ordering a different copy at some point, because it turns out there were more chapters to the book. See, in the '80s it was a three ring binder with removable pages. People who subscribed would get different stories every week or whatever. So, work in progress! Hehe, but the copy now is also very good.

Ah, Craig Shemin, now he's a great guy to hear speak! Anyone else besides me ever have the privilege? Was he ever on the Muppetcast? I can't remember.

Ah yes Craig did write at least one of the stories in the book. I haven't hear him before, can you describe further?

Then maybe talk about the fraggles' love of raddishes, Boober's interesting recipies, and the use of raddishes and other ingredients in doozer sticks, and likewise in the constructions doozers build from them.
Good ideas! And also maybe point out how radishes have always been an odd part of the Muppet reality (all the way back to The Frog Prince, which I think is on youtube). Who knew they would go on to help Fraggle Rock achieve world peace!

Sarah, good luck with your new job! Not only does it sound like the kind of job I'd like, but the hours are not bad either. Okay, so they're long, but I'd rather work at night than in the morning. Lol, I'm rully not a morning person!
Oh fer sure, I'm not a morning person AT ALL! Sleeping in is a true joy in my life. So yeah if I had the choice, I'd work later at night. :insatiable: (Don't know why I picked Cookie Monster, I just love the smiley, lol).

And MuppetNewsgirl, I know the pie in the face thing probably goes back to Vaudeville. I would look into that!

Hmmm, raddishes in the Frog Prince? I've seen the special, but can't remember that particular item. Yes, they are somewhat unusual, (infact I think that was one of the first things that stood out in my mind when watching Fraggle Rock), but I'm happy to say that they're an acquired taste which I've acquired!
:excited:
:smirk:
:coy: Infact, speaking of that, allow me to relate one of those seemingly unrelated yet rond-about moments of muppety magic that I'm sure happen on some occasions in the lives of all fans.
My aunt was in town one day, and she wanted to go to this fairly upscale restaurant that she used to go to when she lived in New York. So we went, and it was really nice, but here's the funny thing. Now when there's a basket of food put on the table when you come in, you might expect bread, or maybe even some mixed greens. Instead, there was a bowl full of large raddishes and olives! I was in heaven! Here were two foods that I liked, (one having a hidden meaning), that not many other people did!
Okay, maybe not the most exciting story you'll ever hear in your life, but I thought it was interesting. That, and the whole evening was fantastic, and so many happy memories accompany that story. Coincidently, it was also my first time trying a grasshopper.
Erin, here are a couple more ideas. I don't know how good this is, but maybe you could make a mention of the Chopped Liver character in Sam and Friends. I don't know what he did, or if he resembled chopped liver in any way, but there you go.
Also, as you're planning to mention the live cow on TMS, (which, no offense, I'm wouldn't do as cows are not only food), you might want to talk about the live chickens they used for at least one sketch. I don't know much about it, or how often live animals were used overall, but read the Dave Goelz interview on this site if you don't know what I'm talking about. Knowing you though, you're probably at least a few steps ahead of me, lol!

And yes, Craig Shemin is amazing! He presented at the Music and Magic event in Huntington; probably more than anyone else if I think about it! He's very heavily involved with the Jim Henson Legacy, and he was able to give us quite a bit of insite into Jim's earlier works. And, though this should come as little surprise, he's very sweet and funny to boot!

Wow! Great story about the bowl or radishes! And I hope that you enjoyed the grasshopper too, Kate!

You know, I'm not a morning person either and I don't do them very well at all. I am a night person and I adore sleep very much:sleep:

Oh dear, lol, I meant to say Hey Cinderella! The big full bodied monster Splurg has a thing for radishes. It's a running gag in the special. At one point Splurg is running Cinderella carriage with Kermit in the driver's seat.

Fairy Godmother: Say, how did you get that thing to go so fast?

Kermit: I dangle a radish in front of him.

FG: A radish?

Kermit (calls to Splurg): Radish, radish! Yaaaaaa! (as he's sprinted away lol)

Cute story! I've actually never had radishes before, which is quite incredible. But there are only a few select veggies I can stand, hehe.

Thanks for sharing! I hope I can go to one of these events some day.

Oh yes, grasshoppers are indeed yummy.
 Alright, since we were talking about Statler earlier, two things popped into my mind, both from the fanfiction section of this very site. They are both somewhat old though, so you may or may not have seen them.

The first one is not about Statler or Waldorf, but contains a very touching moment between Statler and Robin! of all characters, and is a very sweet story overall. I thought of it because we were talking about Statler having a souft spot for children.

The second link is to a series of short Christmas stories. Sory Erin, I forgot about your rule concerning Christmasy things, so I'll repost this at Christmas time if you like.
:embarrassed:
Anyway, the first one is about Statler and Waldorf. It has sort of a melancholy feel to it, but it still leaves room for some muppety and Christmasy warmth.

Tell me what you think, and if you have indeed seen those before.

Oh, and BTW Haralde, raddishes are interesting little things. Typical raw vegitable type on the outside, and a bit of a spicey taste at the center. Like I said, it has to be acquired...
