Oh, I read the story, Kate - after all, I'm in my dorm room as opposed to my parents' house...

Anyway, I went to see my professor this morning, and I chatted with him about the concept of a "Food and the Muppets" paper. I have to turn in a proposal on Monday, and I'm debating the "history of food as comedy route" or the "making fun of today's eating habits" route.

It looks as if I'm going to concentrate on the Muppet Show Muppets, as opposed to all of the Muppet shows. But let's face it - FR and SS would be papers unto themselves.

Ah, so it's not necessarily your rule then?

Okay, well the Muppet Show focus is good, although are you sure you'll have enough material with that alone? Sheesh, now I sound like a professor...

'Fraid so, Kate. Even in our liberal academic atmosphere, the prof has a say in things.

Oh, I should have something to chew on from TMS and maybe the movies. And remember, I'm going to be tracing this stuff back through the history of vaudeville, and old comedies, or something to that effect.

The thing is, TMS is the show that really uses food as a comic device. In FR, it's more of a definition of culture and a bond between species, and on SS, while it is a comic device from time to time, it's mostly a teaching tool. Besides, if I looked at all three shows in the same paper, things would get a little complicated.

Definitely interested in seeing how this paper turns out!

Anyone ever seen The Muppets Go to the Movies? Definitely an underrated special! Here's one nice Scooter filled moment (congrats to Richard and Dave for getting the tongue twister down!):

I saw this on Nickelodeon years ago, I remember my favorite character then was Gonzo, lol. I've sort of forgotten that as time went on. But he's still so funny in all his weirdness, lol. :concern:

Huh? *Finds trail of crumbs. *Theme music plays as : search : enters the thread. Egads! It's that simple wimp Pimpernel and his Humperdink's lumpy pumpernickel crumpets! Perhaps we had best find Buttercup and his shipmates, they're most suited to handle Lord Humperdink and his lumpy pumpernickel crumpets. To the pain!

Ooooo, nice tie in, Count! I guess they'll be a shortage of crumpets in Florin soon. Ta da!

That scene is just pure Muppet silliness

"Why me? I'm not the strong one."

"No, you're the stupid one!" Lol

Great line, so it bears repeating. And it's really fulfilling, in a devious sort of way, to see Scooter push Link off the balcony (bet Richard loved that).

And with all those lines about pumpernickel, crumpets, the Scarlet Pimpernel and Englebert Humperdinck, Jim, Richard and Dave must have walked off the set with their tongues tied in knots...

Jim: Ith we hearth athnother worthth athbouth pumpthernickelth...
Richard: Orth theth Scarleth Pimpernelth...
Dave: Orth lumpth and crumptheths...
All: We'rth gothingth to throwth thingths.

Here's another one. I ADORE this one, from Sam's narration to Kermit's entrance (which leaves me in hysterics each time lol). I saw this at The Museum once and a little girl asked her mom who that Muppet was who playing the angel of death, lol.

And now that great foreign film, Silent Strawberries!
