Yay, my copy of Quilting with the Muppets finally arrived! I actually ordered it a couple months ago from Amazon, but it seemed to be out of stock and the order was pushed back. I finally decided to try using a third party and it arrived today. Thanks again, MN, for recommending it!
I'm really glad to be able to see Richard's AIDS quilt up close, the one that the workshop people created. They are a very skilled and talented bunch who clearly love Richard a lot.
Some of my favorite parts:
"Forgetful Jones...brought out more of the simple, sweet side of Richard, in the midst of some of his other more outrageous characters."
(I totally agree with that, btw! One of the sweetest moments in the DVD Playalong Games and Songs is between Forgetful Jones and Elmo (yes that Elmo) as the little red monster offers him comfort.)
"Belmont was a Muppet character...for...The Christmas Toy. Richard Hunt was the brilliant puppeteer who performed this dopey, yet ultimately heroic, character."
(I'm glad to finally hear someone complimenting The Christmas Toy, one of the more underrated Muppet specials. Yeah Belmont was pretty heroic, because he got over his fears into order to save a friend.)
"Richard was always poking fun at me and I would invariably return the favor visually...We both shared the belief that good natured teasing was an act of love - we teased each other a lot!"
(At first glance, I didn't think the caricature panel looked much like him. But when I think about it, lol, it does kinda resemble him, partiulcarly around the eyes. And I like how it's a puppet, lol.)
"My colors for this block were intentional. I chose yellow for the star because of the star that Richard was, he was constantly in motion. He was full of happiness, fun, playfulness, and he had a truly gregarious spirit. For his name, I chose red because it represents fire, blood, and passion, everything that Richard stood for. I picked corduroy as my medium because will all that Richard posssessed, he was down to earth and knew the meaning of friendship."
(Well, I think that pretty much says it all.
)
