Y'know, something very similar happened to my family a couple years ago on the 4th of July, when my cousin and his mom were visiting. We got a really bad thunderstorm overnight (after the fireworks, though) that knocked our power out for two whole days. We all had to stay at a hotel until our power came back.

When Irma hit, we lost power for 36 hours. It was not fun at all, to say the least.

Makes me glad that I live in a state that doesn't get hurricanes. (We do get tornados, though, but they're somewhat rare.)
