Mac Tonight is one of my favorite mascots, and favorite commercials of all time. I love seeing him fly around on his Big Mac. I have no clue why anyone would find him disturbing ...
He's so delightfully 80's. He even has that 80's retro 50's vibe to it. I loved seeing his commercials when they had them during cartoon prime time specials. I believe he had a series of small plastic figures and maybe a shirt or two. Shame they can't bring him back. Then again, I'm disappointed they discontinued the McDonaldland characters years ago. I miss Hamburgalar and Grimace. And that pirate guy.

I love the mix of puppetry, live action and costumed characters, in a "magical" world, that's so bright, colorful and inviting. Now McDonald's is by no means my favorite fast food place taste wise, but something about these commercials makes it my favorite. I used to watch these commercials all the time when I was younger, and I was so fascinated by them. It's really sad that they got rid of the classic characters for these guys ...

We get ads for chains down here that aren't actually in our region either, like 7-11. Lately, we've been getting commercials for a Boston Market thing, I'm not sure if it's a grocery store or a restaurant, but we don't have them either. We were also getting ads for Popeye's and Zaxby's for years, and we only got them in the last few years. Likewise, we're still getting ads for Toys-R-Us, CiCi's Pizza, and Baskin-Robbins, and they all left our town long ago (the latter of which I'm really P.O.'d about, because I see they now have cookie ice cream sandwiches that look delicious, but if I want to try one, I'd have to make a special trip all the way up to the Smoky Mountains for them, since those are the closest ones we have now).

They've been slipping that kind of tongue-in-cheek humor into commercials quite a bit lately. There's another similar one where a guy was trying a new deodorant and he kept feeling his armpits to the point that even the voice-over announcer told him to stop because it was too weird.
I think it must have to deal with cable stations selling commercials nationally, and then locally. So some chains are going to pay to put themselves out there to everyone, even if the closest store is states away. Or maybe this isn't how it works; I don't know too much about the inside of the TV industry, lol.
