I honestly see it as a way of disrespecting a public figure who can’t otherwise speak for themselves since…… well, they’re dead.

To me it’s no different than so many SpongeBob fans continually putting words in Stephen Hillenberg’s mouth saying he didn’t want spin-offs to happen and Nickelodeon disrespected his wishes the minute he died, in which the reality is he said he never SEES spin-offs happening, which honestly only makes the fans look disrespectful to their idol rather than them trying to “defend” him from the company they’re vilifying.

I think people just over estimate Jim's actual involvement with the show. Yes, he developed those first Muppet characters and helped set the tone of what their bits were. Yes, he made little films. But that was pretty much it. Virtually every creative decision about the show comes from the writers, producers, curriculum people, etc.
