EIG actually should be counted, because Jim Henson Pictures was involved with production along with CTW (as opposed to FTB, which was produced by CTW only): Brian was even executive producer.

Both The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth could be counted as well, but they can't because they truly are separate entities as Jim wanted these movies as departures from his traditional Muppet fare.

EDIT: I think another reason why MC is declaring the new movie as the "seventh" is because it seems like the Muppet community, as a whole, likes to pretend that KSY and MWoO never existed... yet they always praise IAVMMCM... and you know what? If Jason Segel ruins the new movie with his filthy sense of humor, I might have a chance of removing my personal "Worst Muppet Movie to Date" title from IAVMMCM, which... I don't know, it seems like it might happen...

*In Nostalgia Critic mode* So let me get this straight... the movie's about Jason Segel who wants to hook up with Amy Adams Whose Still Being A Redhead Right Now Which Makes Her Look Like Jenna Fischer, and he's thrown the Muppets in there somewhere, but that's not important... ?
(in deep, ominous voice) I find your lack of faith...disturbing. :scary:

I don't even think Segal wants his usual ultra sexual/raunchy Apatowish material anywhere near this film, even in a reference.
He seems to be going out of his way to make a truly wholesome irreverent "harkening back to the classics" experience.

There is definitely a concern about just how much screentime the Muffins will have, though they payoff might be pretty good if the setup is right in the delay...even though, we're all used to big Muppety openers.

There is no chance that Disney would let Jason make a film with the Muppets anywhere near his R rated movies. PG is the audience they want... maybe even G. Muppets work best as Family films.

If you read any interview or see any video with Seagle in it, and he talks about the movie you will quickly find out two things.

1. He really really Loves the Muppets, and wants to see them do really really well at all costs.

2. He is not going to but any "bad things" in this movie. Just about every single person who interviews him askes him if he has a hard time getting into "Muppet mood" when he was writeing. He would almost always say the same answer which the short of it was no. So I have faith that this movie will be edgy yet tasefull.

Some people have been on the fence with the movie until they saw the trailer... any doubt I had was erased long ago when Jason bemoaned recent Muppet Movies like "Muppets Underwater" (did everyone get hit with the Men in Black Neutralizer but him? I don't recall that one  ) all the way back when they were pressuring Disney to do it.

The one bit of skepticism I don't think think holds water is saying Jason's going to make this movie "dirty" because films for adults that he made or starred in are R rated and have LOTS of sex in them. That's like people who called Ralph Bakshi a pornographer when he was doing Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures because of Fritz the Cat, ignoring his tenure at Terrytoons.

Some creative types make things for adults AND children, and while they sometimes share the same style, they RARELY share the same themes. I'm sure Jason would hate a raunchy version of the Muppets because WE won't want a raunchy version.

Long story short, Jason wants the Muppet movies WE want. Otherwise he could have just given us Muppet Pride and Prejudice or Muppet Moby Dick.

Whatever the case may be, I can hardly wait for the new Muppet film! I hope that they release all the Muppet films officially on blu ray, restored and remasterd with more behind the scene footage.

*fingers crossed* 
