He is an international star of the highest magnitude, a friend and role model to millions. He has made hit television shows, movies, records, and even hosts a theme park attraction. Yet little is known about Kermit the Frog’s childhood, growing up in a humble swamp in the Deep South. How did the tadpole become the frog and celebrity he is today? Kermit’s Swamp Years, a home video feature from Jim Henson Home Entertainment and Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment, will tell the tale of Kermit’s days as a youth. Production will begin late October with distribution slated for Summer 2002.

"Everything that you’ll see, actually happened to me," said Kermit the Frog. It’s what my early years were like, warts and all."

Kermit’s Swamp Years will explore Kermit’s coming-of-age days when he was a 12-year-old frog with best friends Goggles and Croaker. It was a time when three young frogs dreamed of doing something extraordinary with their lives. Kermit’s Swamp Years follows Kermit and his buddies through a glorious adventure into the world outside of the swamp - an expedition that changed Kermit’s life forever.

"The story of Kermit’s youth is a treasure that has yet to be told until now," said Michael Polis, Head of Jim Henson Home Entertainment. "We know his fans across the globe will be entertained and enchanted by this home video release."

Added Robin Russell, Senior Executive Vice President and General Manager for Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment, "Family product is a hugely important genre for the home entertainment market and the Henson franchise is universally acknowledged as the best in the business. CTHE is delighted to continue to expand it partnership once again with Jim Henson Home Entertainment in producing Kermit’s Swamp Years, a feature we feel will provide wonderful entertainment for the entire family."

Michael Polis and Jim Lewis are Executive Producers. Ritamarie Peruggi is Producer. David Gumpel will direct. Boris Malden is Line Producer and Orvis Rigsby is the Production Designer. Written by Jim Lewis, Kermit’s Swamp Years will be filmed at Disney-MGM Studios in Orlando, Florida.
