CinderElmo
coming in December
Courtesy of InternetWire
September 28, 1999
CinderElmo,
a "Sesame Street"-style retelling of the classic fairy tale
"Cinderella," stars Keri Russell ("Felicity"), French
Stewart ("3rd Rock From the Sun"), Kathy Najimy (KING OF THE
HILL and "Veronica's Closet") and Oliver Platt ("Lake Placid"),
along with "Sesame Street" Muppets Elmo, Grover and Kermit the
Frog. The musical special will make its world broadcast premiere Monday,
Dec. 6 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. The premiere of CinderElmo is sponsored
by Kmart and will be released on home video and DVD from Sony Wonder in
March 2000, as a continuation of its partnership with Children's Television
Workshop.
When the
"Princess' 18th Birthday Holiday Ball" turns into the "Princess'
18th Birthday Holiday Find-A-Husband Ball" in the land of Sesame
Street, all of the town's unmarried men and monsters make haste to the
celebration -- except for CinderElmo.
While the
little red monster has always dreamt of dancing with the beautiful Princess
(Russell), CinderElmo's stepmother (Najimy) has set her sights on the
castle for her two sons, Telly Monster and Baby Bear, and doesn't want
CinderElmo to get in the way. But with the help of a novice Fairy Godperson
(Platt), a Prince of a Dog (Stewart), his best friend Zoe and a little
can-do attitude, CinderElmo makes it to the ball and manages to capture
the Princess' heart with his fancy footwork. But when the clock strikes
12, CinderElmo flees, and the search for the Princess' true love is on.
Nancy Kanter
is executive producer, Kevin Clash is co-executive producer and Bruce
Leddy directs the screenplay by Tony Geiss. CINDERELMO is a production
of the Children's Television Workshop.
