First 3 Muppet movies coming to video in June Courtesy
of Columbia Tri-Star It was twenty years ago today, the Muppets went to Hollywood to play... Now, Columbia Tri-Star Home Video and Jim Henson Home Entertainment are guaranteed to make families smile with the release of three classic Muppet motion pictures, The Muppet Movie, The Great Muppet Caper and The Muppets Take Manhattan, each available for $14.95 S.R.P. on June 1, 1999.
The movie that started it all, The Muppet Movie, now celebrating its 20th anniversary, stars the Muppets in a hilarious parody of Hollywood, as Kermit, Miss Piggy and a wacky cast of characters make their way to Tinseltown in search of stardom and bump into everybody who is anybody. The movie features the ever-popular song, "The Rainbow Connection" by Paul Williams. The Muppet Movie garnered numerous awards including a Grammy Award (Best Children's Album), Box Office Magazine/ National Screen Council Blue Ribbon Award, and the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films Best Fantasy Film.
The Muppets give new meaning to the show biz phrase 'the show must go on' in The Muppets Take Manhattan. Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie and the entire Muppet gang are Broadway-bound to turn their "Manhattan Melodies" into a major musical hit. The Muppets Take Manhattan received an Academy Award nomination for Best Music and Original Song Score. A trio of perennial classics that families will want to treasure forever, The Muppet Movie, The Great Muppet Caper and The Muppets Take Manhattan are timed to coincide with the upcoming theatrical release of Muppets From Space, scheduled to open July 30, 1999.
