New Henson

Columbia
TriStar Home Video (CTHV) has announced a wide-ranging agreement with
The Jim Henson Company to distribute home video product under the Jim
Henson Home Entertainment (JHHE) banner. Further expanding the scope of
its extensive library of home entertainment product, CTHV will act as
the sole distributor of the JHHE line of video, Laserdiscs and DVD in
North America and select international territories.
Margaret
Loesch, president, Jim Henson Television Group Worldwide, will have overall
responsibility for all operations of the JHHE banner. The JHHE product
mix will feature the company's catalogue of critically acclaimed
feature films, television specials and series as well as new made-for-video
product. The line will include materials previously released on home
video, such as the various Muppet movies, as well as new-to-video
feature length and short-form releases.
Under the new deal, the first JHHE package will be made available on September
15th and will include two never-before-released multi-episode volumes
of Jim Henson Television's "Bear in the Big Blue House'' ($14.95),
the critically acclaimed preschool series currently airing on Disney
Channel. This will be followed by a September 29th offering of three
previously released titles, "Muppet Family Christmas,'' "Emmet
Otter's Jug-Band Christmas'' and "The Christmas Toy.'' We will
have to wait and see if "Muppet Family Christmas" is the uncut
version or if it will be the same one released by Jim Henson Video.
Since
Columbia Tri-Star helped to produce The Muppets Take Manhattan in 1984,
it is likely that we will eventually see this movie re-released on video. The
Muppets Take Manhattan was released on video in 1985 and 1991, but has
long since been out of print. It is also exciting to know that Muppet
titles will be on DVD, the upcoming video standard!
