One thing I wonder is, regarding first appearances, why did the book use the Muppets Tonight production order as opposed to the broadcast order? It seems like Muppet Wiki was used as a reference, and so in finding first appearances, the broadcast orders should have been used.

Maybe the broadcast dates are harder to find? Muppets Tonight's airdates didn't seem very clear, because it got cancelled and re-aired on Disney Channel. I have no idea.

After reading Craig Shemin's interview and seeing that they didn't want to use screen grabs if they didn't have to, I kept thinking about how every page has at least one screen grab (even for characters who should be easy to find three actual photos of), and kept wondering if he meant they wanted each page to include at least one photo that wasn't a screen grab or wanted the main picture to be a non-screen grab. But then I thought of something else: Many screen grabs are accompanied by information about the scenes in question, so perhaps that's why they included them in photos of main characters like Gonzo*, Animal*, Rowlf, and Scooter, because they wanted to include those moments.

*though I'm not really sure whether the images in question are screen grabs or photos taken for the storybooks/promotional purposes. Though the one on the Animal page seems to have a "faded" quality that most of the screen grabs have.

I know his thread is kind of outdated but has anyone seen that picture of Mildred Huxtetter before? It looks like it was taken for the book.

Sorry for bumping this thread after a decade's time, but I did an actual search for the topic and this seemed to be the best thread to post in.

So apparently there was a second edition of the book published in 2019. What I'm wondering is...
Was it a straight-up reprint of the original edition?
Or were there more characters included that weren't in the first edition, and if so, which characters were new additions?

Hope for a reply or two when possible, thanks.

I'm sad to hear that Droop is not in the book. He's one of my favorite characters.

Are characters such as Thog, Beautiful Day Monster, Behemoth, or Gorgon Heap included?

Y'see, I'm not sure if that's the correct spelling or not. When Bill Barretta signs his name, he has the "é", but on the second:

But, according to this Muppetism, it's on the first "e":

But, then again, on his book, it's not present:

So, honestly....I'm not sure! I wouldn't sweat it, they misspelled Sal's name, too. They put "Monella" instead of "Minella".

Speaking of signatures, I think it would be nice if in the next edition of the Muppet Character encyclopedia, that they could include the Muppet's signatures. Now, this is just provided that a second edition is made, and if this version sells well. They could just include a little spot on each character's page for what their signature looks like. Or, depending on the character, the signature could be rather big (Thog's signature isn't gonna be the same size as Rizzo's).

I dunno, maybe it's just me. But I sure would like to see that. C'mon. Don't tell me you wouldn't wanna see what Splurge's autograph looks like.

I might turn the Pepe accented e debate thing into an objection.lol!

Don't bother, as a lifelong Spanish speaker I can tell you that debate doesn't/shouldn't exist. Because the phonetic emphasis is on the first syllable of a two-syllable word, the name "Pepe" doesn't have an accented vowel as part of its spelling.

I don’t have the book but I remember researching Nigel from muppets tonight and coming across an image of his entry in the Muppets Encyclopedia. I remember one section of the page saying something like “Lookalikes: Nigel may look like another Muppet called Droop but their personalities are different as night and day.” So I assumed Droop was in the book too, since he was mentioned. I’ll try to find that image again and see if Droop was actually mentioned or im just going crazy.
update: I found the image (idk how to add images into replys) but it says: “Seeing Double: Nigel bears a resemblance to Droop, a glum little guy first seen in The Muppets Valentine Show pilot. They may share a silhouette, but their personalities are like night and day.”
