Was that new waiter Grover sketch a remake of the old one where Grover used poetic memory to remember food orders ("round and tasty, on a bun, pickles, french fries, yum yum yum!")?

Yeah! I thought that Grover waiter sketch lacked creativity. Frank probably wouldn't have done it because he already did that before, LOL!

I think what they should do is only play "Elmo's World" if Elmo isn't in the street story or anywhere else on the show. That way they'll still get him in every episode, but have more time to play some classic clips. I thought today's ep was a bit bland, but they did get a Grover the Waiter sketch in. I don't know if it was new or old. I think it was Eric as Grover there. Anyway, it was good to see that. The street story might have been more interesting if they would have brought back the old Guy Smiley/Prince Charming. It seems like they add a new prince every season. I didn't quite see the ending yet so I can't comment there, so I'll write more later on.
You're right. They should've brought back the original Prince Charming. I wonder if Eric Jacobson could do his voice since Frank Oz originally performed him.

Cool, a new Grover the Waiter sketch! It was a little weird, because I figured since it involved Fat Blue that Frank Oz might have done Grover, but then again, I guess since Jerry Nelson isn't doing any actual puppeteering this season, Frank probably wouldn't be interested.
I was actually wondering about that. I didn't know if Jerry still puppeteered or just looped in the voices for his characters. It's still good to hear his voice anyway.

The week in review...

So far, the survey says.... Mixed. Very mixed. not as an opinion, but Mixed up and lacking direction. One episode randomly had no Elmo's world, and the rest of the filler skits were pretty much all over the place and just randomly inserted. Plus they chose a lot of stuff that made no sense and was just terrible. The first 3 episodes didn't have as many Muppet segments as I like. And Big Bird really has been feeling the brunt of this, only appearing in one episode out of 5 for less than a minute.

At least we got some great new stuff, including 2 of the Elmo's Worlds.

But other than that, it was pretty much half good, half they could have done better. We lost Global Grover and Ernie and Bert, and we pretty much gained segments that were all over the place.

But then again, they're trying to bring back the glorious street segments interspearced throught the program.

Episode 4139

My thoughts on the "Letter 'P' Game" episode...

The good points:

  1. A decent plot for a letter-centered episode. Thankfully, the "P" itself didn't show up as a character; back in the 90s, CTW did that way too often in letter/number episodes. Even the "Elmo's World" tied in with the street story, which doesn't happen as often as it should.
  2. A decent mix of old and new material. I liked seeing lots of new Muppet material (especially the new Grover sketch); I was also glad to find a more recent Number of the Day, and a different story framework from the usual Oscar/Trash Gordon at the end. On the other hand, Kingston Livingston III's song was a cool nostalgia fix...

The bad points:

  1. Abby Cadabby cheats when she plays the "P" game; finding fairy-tale characters with her magic is one thing, but using it to turn a salt shaker into a pumpkin? Someone should have told her she wasn't playing fair.
  2. Although the Word on the Street was a food name (and pizza/potatoes/peas are also "P" foods), I think the food theme was taken a little too far this time. Yes, everybody eats...but for Pete's sake, Sesame Workshop, please give it a rest!
  3. The cartoons they chose to teach rhyming were deadly dull. I didn't miss "Calcutta Joe" from the 80s...and the new animal song (with the frog/hog and quail/snail) felt like more of the same.
Overall, I'd give this episode a 5.0 on a scale of 1-10: not great, but not as awful as the one before it either.

Episode 4139:

Storyline:
It was cool. I enjoyed all the P words and everything else. But i still enjoyed it.

Songs:
Not any new ones but still ok ones to listen too.

Grover skit:
Enjoyed it. Loved it. Cool to see a new Grover the waiter skit too.

End:
Loved that Gina did the spouncers at the end of the show. Cool to see something new. But all in all it was an ok episode.

Does anyone have MP3's of this season's songs at all?
The new songs from this week's episodes have just begun playing on Muppet Central Radio. Have a listen and enjoy.
