Where are all these classic Sesame Street episodes coming from?

I remember seeing David in the late '80s and was baffled by how different he looked and sounded in comparison to the record albums from a decade earlier, particularly the "Daydreamin'" album, which was his peak.
Fast forward to the "Sing Along" episode/VHS release 10 years later and the change is appalling

Oh, gee, I mean that's a bit strong, don't you think? The guy was mentally unstable, some of the changes were probably the result of behavior that was beyond his own control.
Maybe I didn't phrase it the correct way, maybe "shocking" is better. But I was very confused on how different he had changed in such a short period of time. Everybody else looked very similar to how they did a decade earlier
