Voices should deffenitly be a plus, especially if you were to be reading to young children. I achild will remember a funny voice, and therefore, the story.

ahh I'm talking about speech competitions...actually I did use a couple voices, but one of my judges didn't like my caribbian/british accent...I thought it was very original

I bet the jerk judges thought "Original, but not accurate," and that's why they dumped on you.

I was in a spelling be for the northern state competition and lost on the world "Navel" because I thought they said "Naval." In other words, I spelled 'orange' instead of 'fleet of military boats.' Geez!

Man, that stinks! Aren't they pronounced the same? They should have given you a definition! :attitude:

I saw the Lion King Broadway Show on Tour here in Memphis: BEAUTIFUL SHOW!!! Loved it!!

That's kinda dumb that you got disqualified for doing voices: did they not make it clear in the rules of the contest? That should have been fought! Storytellers have always used voices on occasion. Dumb rule.
Well,it was clear,but Ididn't agree :embarrassed:

A group and me lost an improvisation acting contest once because,1 they gave the other team to many points (same as us and we we're a lot better with our squirrels in mating season, don't ask) and 2, because it was a draw we had to name types of vegetables until one teamcouldn't think of anymore, and they hadn't heard of one of teh veggies that a girl on my team named! And than one of the guys in our team started throwing chairs around. That was kinda funny to see.

I got asked to do my immitation of a ferocious squirrel a lot that day. Nickname for that day
"you know, that girl with the rediculously high heels that didthat ferocious squirrel thingy"

Nwever had a better nickname in my life

I used to love speech competitions. I did my fair share of cleaning up.

In the NFL (National Forensics League) you are not allowed ot have your peice memorized but since you do it so often you invariably do.

I was at the state competition one yeah and while gesturing wildly (as I am wont to do) I threw my book clear to the back of the room where it hit a wall.

Instead of stopping, I didn't miss a beat and kept telling the story as I walked, picked it up and walked back.

Normally they mark down for that kinda thing but they didn't seem too. I think they were like "what the heck?"

I still got third in the state anyway that year....not too shabby.

I do voices like a fiend. . . though they all sound kinda jersey...

what event were you doing? I compete in Foreign Extempt, Standard Oratory, and I've recently written an Original Oratory, and competed in Prose once last year..and I was NOT good at Prose! Our school doesn't do national, and we don't do debate, but somehow, we've managed to win state 2 years in a row!
