The Count said:
He's even gone on record saying he'd like to keep performing Big Bird until he can't lift the costume's head up right any longer.
Now I realize that Caroll can't do Big Bird and Oscar forever, but even after he couldn't physically be Big Bird, he could still dub voices, couldn't he? at least for a little while

Why though? Just so people who should have stopped watching Sesame Street years ago don't have to face the reality of change?

Fact is people get old, they retire, they die. It happens. Now the voice will never sound exactly the same. Sure there are voice actors out there that can probably immitate Caroll spot on, but can they perform the puppet? Can they bring life to a character? Probably not.

No one likes change but you guys have to stop fighting it tooth and nail. Jim Henson isn't coming back, Richard Hunt is not coming back, Caroll Spiney will at some point retire (though god bless him for still staying with it). It just happens. Accept it.

yeah. I think this thread should be locked and everyone should find something else to talk about. It's 1 thing to talk a little bit about this but to keep going on and on about it is silly.

Carroll Spinney is still Oscar and Big Bird. Matt Vogel is the understudy who is being trained by Carroll. Matt's Big Bird sounds a lot like Carroll's did in the early years.

Carroll HAS said he will be the one who performs Big Bird and Oscar until he can't any longer--so, here's to a million more years of Carroll, Big Bird, and Oscar; and on the million-and-oneth day we'll welcome Matt!
