its exact thats the same material, (although most you see these days are sort of dirty , but the 1977 hand puppet and plush are the same material that kermit is made from

that really doesnt seem like it's worth the expense, i would also look at maybe using Algo dye, do a google search for it, the colors are nicer than rit, and much more vibrant,
Thanks for the info!! I did not know that it was the same material
I'll have to check the Algo dye site out.

The RIT site does the color matching service recipiet for free....

Free Color Matching Service.
If you have a special color you would like matched, send us a color swatch and a swatch of the fabric you plan to dye, we'll be happy to create a color recipe just for you. Be sure to enclose your return address.

Rit Consumer Services

So if I cut off a piece of my '76 Kermit plush I should be able to send it in and get an exact match, theoretically.

Well, my first test dying was a disaster on my Antron fleece!!!!

My color came out more like a camo green, so I wasted $7 in dyes down the drain. I used RIT's dye color mixing guide for the CHARTREUSE and I figured I'll try golden yellow and Kelly green instead of the regular yellow aand Kelly green figureing it would get me closer to the color I wanted, man was I ever wrong!! I then added some dark green to try and make it more green and ended up with a mess and it came out a puke camo green.

I'll go back and get more dye in a week or so and try again using what they suggested, live and learn.

I may even try just the yellow and blue dye, back in school I remember yellow and blue make green, with RIT dye, I don't know :frown: The color chart dosn't show how it would look.

I only lost about 6" X 2" of fabric doing the test's, so it wasn't too bad.

In my experience, the RIT chart does work but you have to follow the instructions really carefully, especially quanitities of water and dye if you are mixing two different colours.

Although I've had good results with RIT in the past I really like Aljo dye.

Thanks, I'm gonna give it one more shot, then I'll snip off a paw off of my FP Kermit and send it to RIT along with a Antron fleece sample and see what they come up with.

Hey, it is free, why not..?..

you do not need to use a whole box of dye, try using measured amonuts with measuring spoons, keep track of the dye amounts you use

Even if the RIT color dye receipt calls for a full package? Wouldn't that make the color lighter?

I'm not sure of the exact formula, but even if you use less dye powder, you leave the fleece sitting in the tub longer and it balances out.

yeah , even if the box says one thing, u are making a custom color, u need to need to expeiriment , takea good look at the color you want o nmake, it is not really that saturated, try again, using smaller amounts of dyae in your dye bath

Aarrgggg.....
I sooo mad right now..... I got my dye bath perfact for what I wanted using a couple 4" X 2" swath test strips and it was really close to the FP Kermit color and I said cool lets dye it, I pre wet the fabric as mentioned in the directions and put it in the washing machine, 45 minutes later it in the washing machine and it is NOT even close to what the color was in my test swath and it dosn't appear to be getting any darker by letting it sit.

Did my prewetting the fabric dilute my dye???? I used two packs of yellow dye and some blue dye to get my color and it was great, by adding almost two yards of wet fabric make it go lighter?

I weighed the fabric and it was 1.89 pounds for almost 2 yards and the package said to use 1 package for every pound of dry weight, so if anything I had more dye then it called for by the directions.

I'm sooo mad right now.
