Wow! That is NOT appropriate for young kids. How risque! I'm glad they changed it.

At the time, it was very innocent, no one was thinking of any bad connotations. It was a joke. Unfortunately, nowadays we hear a lot of bad things happening on the news and naturally we want to protect our kids.

But personally, I don't think kids take lyrics that seriously. We treat kids like they're so fragile and can't take anything.

There are definitely instances where kid's entertainment needs to be monitored. But sometimes, we are a little paranoid.

Ah, hyperactive parents... You know, that's really all it boils down to. This song just went the way of Don Music and the baker sketches. Are there anymore examples from SS that I'm not aware of?

Not that I know of... But I agree with Herald in that sometimes song lyrics are/can be serious and do need monitoring and kids need to be protected from said harmful influences.

But the example here in the song "I Want A Monster To Be My Friend" is one that in my opinion doesn't rully need monitoring as it's OK given the context and situational setting of the song.
The only other like example I can think of is when adults got upset over the song "Wake Up, Little Suzy" by the Everly Brothers for the lines that suggest...
Suzy baby, I told your mother I'd have you in by 10 (meaning 10 PM).
And the fact that: Wake up little Suzy and weep. We both fell fast asleep. The movie's over, it's 4 o'clock, and we're in trouble o deep.
Thus suggesting that the boy and girl had been out together all night. But that doesn't rully upset me that much either.

Hope this helps and have a good night as the morning creeps.
*Halloween laughter.
