Hey everyone. I'm planning to make a few puppets of my own soon, so I was wondering about the fleece from Walmart. I know that walmart has fleece, I was just wondering if anyone here has every used it and if it is any good.

Thanks!

The fleece that Wal-mart carries is okay. It won't hide seems as well as Antron and certainly won't give you as "pretty" a final result but it does work for making puppets. I don't know if I've actually bought any fleece from Wal-mart specifically but I have made a few puppets from the same type of fleece that they sell. I just bought mine at Hancock Fabrics, JoAnne Fabrics, or Hobby Lobby.

I've also used Antron and while it is more expensive, requires special ordering and dying it to your preferred color I still prefer it. I recently posted a couple pics of puppets that I made using the "budget" fleece like you'd find at Wal-mart but I'll give you a couple links here so you can see for yourself. I think the end result was acceptable.

In the end materials do have an impact on the final quality of the puppet but you can create some wonderful characters using a whole variety of different raw materials. Best of luck and have fun, whichever fleece you decide to use!

First here's Stanley. I included a few shots so you could see his progression.

And here's Blank.

Thanks for the compliment! I was happy to be able to offer any info. I'm always excited when I can answer anything with my relatively minimal experience.

Well, those represent my third and fourth efforts, but I've done a TON of reading both online and of books and things I've ordered online. It should also be noted that those 2 puppets were made using patterns from Project Puppet. An outstanding resource! Feel free to drop me a line anytime if you have questions or pics of your work to share. I love to hang out with my fellow puppet fanatics!

Awesome! I recently purchased the Glorified Sock Puppet Pattern from there, explaining this thread! As a first-time puppet-builder, I'm kind of nervous to begin once I have gathered all my materials. Don't wanna mess anything up! Anyway, I'll be sure to post some pictures when I am finished!

PS - Do you buy actual rods from websites or do you personally make them yourself? Thanks!
