I’m wondering whether they’ll do a cold open with Scooter (S2-S4) or Pops (S5). Since this will be a ‘special,’ I’m sure there will be something far more different to acknowledge the show’s comeback. As for the opening sequence, what do you suppose they’ll do about Thog’s abnormally large size? I think they ought to either raise the height of the arches or revert him back to how he was in the ‘70s.

I'm guessing that Scooter will do the cold open for the first time out, but if this goes to series, hopefully we'll see Pops (and Bobo!). "Muppets Tonight" had the right idea that not every episode had to have the same opening.

Great question about Thog. I have no clue! I guess we'll see.

I knew nothing about Sabrina Carpenter, but that's all very encouraging to know!

I have no idea what to expect of this. I would very much like this to succeed. At the same time, however, being that this will be Disney's The Muppet Show, I worry it won't have the same edge the original show did. I want to see chaos ensue like in the original series, but I'm worried Disney might tone that down. I also worry about Kermit. Bad voice aside, I feel like Disney wants to make Kermit more like Mickey Mouse. Not that Mickey Mouse is entirely a bad character, but the problem is that he's bland compared to Kermit. Kermit has more layers to him than Mickey, but it seems like Disney doesn't want to tap into that aspect of the character anymore. I hope I am wrong about all this, but we'll see what happens.

literally Sabrina Carpenter makes me so uncomfortable though like why couldn't you have gotten an artist who didn't genuinely imitate LOLITA and who's whole thing isn't ... y'know... appeal. Like, if that's what she's going for, get it girlie, I get that part of it is a girl's right to be... promiscuous, but atp I think she's just riding on her male stans (wth is the track 'juno'). Anyways, she's not Ayesha and her attempt actually make me ill (Ayesha didn't try to attach that kind of connotation to an innocent movie with a CHILD mc in any of HER songs...)

literally if you need a girlie-girl popstar for your guest like,,, Chappel Roan isn't disquieting. That's the only vaguely similar pop music artist I can think of rn, the only genres of pop I listen to is power pop and pop rock.

JD Hansel: I think the potential of it is the most exciting thing. Naturally, that's how it goes. But not just the potential of more Muppet Show stuff and more good Muppet stuff and more of the Muppets in their element, more of these characters in the environment that they're from where they really belong. There's another thing about it that's pretty exciting or at least has a lot of potential to it. This could be the thing that breaks the Vogel vicious cycle. What do I mean by the Vogel vicious cycle? I mean the fact that it has felt like for a very long time, there has been this shadow cast over Matt Vogel's Kermit by internet comments being really really mean about it and there's been a sense that maybe we haven't gotten the big onscreen production with Kermit the Frog yet because maybe this Kermit is either not ready or just the general public haven't gotten used to it yet. And so why center a big production around a character that the general public is not used to yet in this form? But then because we don't get the big production, not enough people are seeing what the Muppets are doing and so they can't get used to this version of Kermit and so then they're bitter about it online and then it feels even more like maybe it's not time yet. And now I get the sense that it's time. I get the sense that it is time to play the music, time to light the lights. Everyone who likes the Muppets, I assume, I hope, is going to see this, see that it's out there, you know, unless there's another thing like the Jimmy Kimmel thing and people unsubscribe from Disney Plus forever and ever and ever, but you know what I mean. Barring anything like that happening again, presumably everyone who likes the Muppets is going to tune in for a new Muppet show and they're going to one way or the other get used to this Kermit the Frog or this is the moment where we realize they can't get used to it. The Muppets doing the Muppet Show again isn't even working because of how much people are not vibing with this particular element of the franchise. I don't know which way it's going to go. I'm hopeful for the less conflicting option, more nice option, but I don't know.
