I could be wrong on this, but I don't think a straight reissue is possible.

Sony currently has the license for SST music and video/DVD releases. If Columbia released the album (or an album) year ago, I sincerely doubt they'd hand over the rights and masters and just let Sony eat up the profits. Since Sony got the license away from Columbia, I don't think there'd be a lot of cooperation there.

I'd love to see the old records available on CD-- maybe we can get more cds that contain the old music in new compilations.

Sony bought Columbia

Right - Sony may have the master tapes somewhere in their
vaults...

OR, they could have been erased forever...(perish the thought!)

Guess we'll never know...;(

Unfortunately, there aren't any plans to release this soon that I am aware of. All of the songs from Sesame Street 1 (and 2) are on Muppet Central Radio (in pretty good quality). Sealed records or cassettes of this album do appear on eBay so it won't be too hard to pick up a mint copy and then digitally master it to CDR for your collection.

The old Sesame records are not erased forever, sstVideo confirmed that all the albums have been digitally mastered and preserved for generations to come. As he mentioned, XM Radio is another great source of Classic Sesame tunes.

Sadly, I think it's because not enough people care about it.

Was it ever released on cassette? I don't think they had cassettes all the way back then, I think it was only on record.

Around 1977, many of the Sesame albums were also released on cassette. The older ones were reissued. I have a Sesame Street 1 cassette, I bought around that time.
