Last week I played drums for a middle school production of The Wiz! It's a pretty well-known musical from 1974 that is a retelling of the Wizard of Oz with a funky musical setting (lots of disco, jazz, gospel, and funk). There are a lot of great tunes from the musical: Ease On Down the Road, He's the Wiz, Don't Nobody Bring Me No Bad News, The Feeling We Once Had...but this one is my favorite piece to play. Jazz waltz + soft ballad = chronically groovy!:big_grin::sing::halo::flirt:

Time for a trip to Groove City. Mingus knew how to write funky tunes.

This was also what I was going to use as the main theme for a road movie/semi-autobiographical documentary I attempted to film last year of all the different places I've lived growing up.
