If it wasn't for the eyes... really. The character designs from the first version looked much closer to their general designs. But then again, the first version is the one that should've got made, not this messy Alvin and the Chipmunks wanna be they're planning.

I was so excited about this movie until they changed studios, changed the script, and decided to make it a generic kids movie. Betcha the movie posters will be splattered with stolen lines from other movies (The over used "Say Hello to my Little Friend" seems tailor made for them to steal) and horrible puns not even a Bullwinkle fan would find funny as well.

Can't wait to see them fart all over the place and make dated references that keep the movie from being relevant by the time it comes to DVD in 2 months after its release.

I'm really hoping by then someone actually watched an episode of the Smurfs or read one of the comics or even bothered to look up what exactly they were. The fact they're throwing away the whole fairy tale medieval setting is troublesome and frankly idiotic. Really, I hope that script was turned down and they got back to the roots.

If not, I predict Belgium will be at war with us.

Oh well... at least we still have the TinTin movie to look forward too, as far as Belgian comics go.

Now THIS is what I'm talking about!

We're going to ACTUALLY for the first time in the US get the original Smurfs comic albums printed in English. unfortunately, I can't find any web page that links to the news, BUT if you go to your local comic store, they might just have a one dollar preview comic.

So far, expect to see The Purple Smurf (they had to change this from the Black Smurf for really silly PC reasons) and The Magic Flute to come soon.

Movie schmovie. THIS is what I was waiting for.

I'm in charge of product orders for a small toy shop in San Francisco and I've looked into getting classic Smurfs in the store. Our shop is stocked with heaps of cool Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and GI JOE, but falls short in a lot of other areas. There's not much Muppet stuff available to us, but I try.

Next week's shipment includes a lot of Smurf beans (Papa, Smurfette, Painter, Handy and the basic Smurf design). They're very cute, but I really wanted to have some sort of bin containing the individual PVCs I enjoyed growing up. Those seem to be unavailable to us through our wholesalers, but it seems that Smurf figures now come with packaging and at a higher price point. I really want that Smurf bin. I know that there are a few special series that include loose Smurfs, but do they still have the eachies in multiple varieties?

Would that be the Schliech (I can never spell that... same German PVC company that did the Muppets) Smurf PVC's? I see them around from time to time, but it seems I'm either seeing less places that carry them or some that have just started carrying them. Those things have ALWAYS been around, unlike the Jaxx Pacific stuff. Funny that you're just getting them... most places like TRU and Target have either completely cleared them out or are in the process of clearing them out. So, you actually might be getting that advantage, since you wouldn't find them in general retail anymore.

That said, I REALLY can't wait for the comic albums. I feel that Eurocomics are vastly under-rated in the states, and only one square that has a LOT of European tourists (near Harvard University) manages to have not only TinTin, but Asterix, Lucky Luke and some I haven't even heard of in stock. I'm sure the Smurfs will get more of a wide release.

After tracking it down, I was able to find the one dollar Smurfs preview comic that I've been putting off buying. If you manage to see it, snag it up. Even though it WILL be printed in the Purple Smurf volume. We see why Gargamel REALLY wants the Smurfs, as an ingredient in making a philosopher's stone.
