It's okay, heralde - I'm sure everyone around here has had to deal with really unpleasant people every now and then (sometimes, usually now as opposed to then). And of course, our pal Richard had to deal with unpleasant people in his time - like those bullies who kept stealing his papers when he was a paper boy.

It's true, here on the forums, there are more nuts than a bag of trail mix, but we're generally a good-natured bunch. And that's generally how Muppet fans tend to be: crazy but genial.

On other forums and blogs...the posts can get downright vindictive. And in many cases, it's the same few posters who take over the forum and start spewing rants and filth - stuff I can't repeat here. So that's why I hang out here - it helps me keep things in perspective and people aren't stabbing each other in the back.

Yeah you know it really did remind me of the worst parts of grammar school, heh. Which I usually try not to think about because they're very painful. Where not only were people rude but they laughed at you for trying to be nice.

I really felt for Richard when his mother mentioned that stuff in Street Gang. People who are different are just open targets in grammar school. Thankfully as you get older, you usually start to find your way in life and gravitate toward people who are more like you. Or even if they aren't, they love you for who you are. I guess that's maybe what the Muppets were for Richard.

But yeah I didn't realize just how unusual Muppet Central was. I won't take it for granted again!

Same here; I've tried to repress most of my grammar school memories, but every so often one bubbles up and re-opens old wounds. Middle school's one of the worst times; it's a mixture of elementary school hijinks and high school hormones, fearful to behold. So yes, for me it was painfully familiar when I read about Richard being a target for bullies. I guess if I had a paper route, I'd have had kids steal my papers too.

In Richard's case, it looks as if the boys eventually got caught, since the vice principal called Jane and told her about it.

You're right; posting here is kind of therapeutic, when life starts to be kind of a drag.

Middle school is really that awkward time. Things got slightly better because I made a really good friend and all the other people eventually started respecting me more because I stuck to my guns.

But it's just never easy when you realize a group is just out to get you, no matter what you say or do. And parents of said bullies aren't always very helpful either, heh. You really just have to push your way through until things get better, and they always do somehow. And being nice is important, even if some people don't appreciate it. Sometimes a little kindness does tame the bully.

S'okay, heralde. I mean we all have our off say and I say everybody deserves to have at least one day to vent out of the year.

True - keeping the angst bottled up doesn't help at all. It's also rough on the immune system and everything else.

And what you said about parents having something to do with the bullying - I read a letter in the paper a while back, from someone who occasionally does walk-around characters at carnivals. Some kid started punching him and kicking him while he was in the costume, and the kid's dad was urging him on. So, yeah, sometimes bullies inherit their attitudes from their parents.

In the meantime, this will cheer you up, heralde: the person with the Myspace page dedicated to Richard, the one you showed us a while back - he or she has several new photos posted, along with a patch from Scooter's jacket. And the person claims that he or she got it from Richard himself.
