You know, It's funny how things like hands can have personality's to the point where you can tell who it belongs to, heh!

In that interview with Dave Goelz that was online a few days ago, Dave talked about how he could tell which puppeteer was which in a scene, based purely on individual puppet movements. He mentioned that Jerry doesn't do as many mouth flaps as the others (I actually had noticed this before) and Frank often poses his head to the right and the body to the left (I think I've noticed this too). And that Steve is just a very skilled amazing puppeteer.

He said he had no idea what his signs were, lol. Personally I could tell Sir Didymus in Labyrith was puppeteered by Dave (even though the voice was someone else). He spreads his arms out in a sweeping gesture, just the way Gonzo often does. Hehe

Dave and the interviewer also discussed how the performers divided up into teams. The interviewer mentioned that Dave and Richard were often paired together. But Dave responded that they weren't really a team, even though he liked working with Richard and they always had fun together. Which does make sense, obviously Dave and Steve were more the team, as were Richard and Jerry.

Thank you and yeah, I have noticed teams where the puppeteers had a certain chemistry together. But I've also noticed Those things about how Jerry and Frank perform, too. And I can usually tell who's preforming by the mo vents and mannerisms of the character. I guess that's kinda what Marty Robinson meant by how nerve racking it is to play someone else's character. It's the same thing with cookie and Grover now. The main way I can tell who's performing them is by the performance of the character. I mean I can tell it's David Rudman playing cookie with the sound off. Partly by the way it fits on his hand and the way that he holds him. He just looks taller. When Frank's doing Cookie, He's much lower down and shorter. It's like he just fits differently.

Yeah, and traveling Matt spreads his arms out that way, too. "Behold! Traveling Matt has come home!"

The big teams seemed to be Jim and Frank, Jerry and Richard, Dave and Steve, and Kathy and Karen. But we've seen plenty of other on-screen teams, like Jerry and Steve, or Richard and Kathy.

Let's see...well, we know all about Richard's head-tilt and nod. And if one of Richard's characters is trying to understand something, or is uncertain, that character tends to look down at the floor while tilting its head from side to side a little bit.
Jim's characters tend to quickly pivot their heads from side to side when they laugh. And if Jim's playing a live-hand Muppet like Rowlf or Cantus, he raises his left hand a bit when he's philosophizing.

(all this is proof that we've been watching the Muppets way too much )

Definitely noticed the left hand philosophizing thing, lol. I'm not really as familiar with the newer performers movements. Some of my friends tell me I'm crazy, like all the puppets are the same, you can't possibly tell who is who. But we know better don't we? Hehe Amazing how many misconceptions people have concerning the Muppets.

Yeah! They have different personalities. It's sort of mirror's and reflects that way people do in real life

I know what you mean, hearalde. I think that's the problem with a lot of "entertainment today. It cat get to the point where everybody's the same and one dimensional, you know?

I still remember, early on reading about this number on Your Face! and being very intrigued, hehe. Then it was even better than I pictured. It's a fairly random little sketch (this is the Muppets), but it just works (the adorable sheep and singer certainly help hehe).

I'm been wanting to hear the original "Long hard Climb" for some time now. I can't tell it's it's Richard or Joe Roposo singing background vocals with Jerry singing lead.

On the newer version, all the vocals are Jerrys.

I recall hearing the original before, but I can't say who was doing all the singing. I don't know why they keep redoing these songs and skits (not that I don't like hearing Jerry sing).

I don't know - probably all about "updating" them or something like that.

And I know where you're coming from, Will, on entertainment being very one-dimensional these days. And a lot of the stuff aimed at children is, unfortunately, either sugary-treacly or mercilessly "hip." (and in the worst cases, both)

Ah, yes, "Rama Lama Ding Dong." Good number - and very well sung. Between this number, plus "Six-String Orchestra" with Scooter, Richard certainly got a chance to show off his vocal talents in the Star Wars episode.
