Just wanted to share the poem that was read in the 1947 Christmas classic movie The Bishop's Wife. It's called "The Empty Stocking" and the last part sort of reminds of the last part of Richard's speech at Jim's memorial.

"Tonight I want to tell you the story of the empty stocking. Once upon a midnight clear there was a child's cry, a blazing star hung over a stable and wise men came with birthday gifts.

We haven't forgotten that night down through the centuries. We celebrate it with stars hung on the Christmas Tree, and the cry of bells, and with gifts. We buy them and wrap and them and put them under the tree. I give you a tie, you give me a book. Cousin Martha always wanted an orange squeezer and Uncle Harry could use a new pipe.

Oh we forget no one, child or adult. All the stockings are full...all that is...but one. We have even forgotten to hang it up. A stocking for the Christ child born in a manger.

It's his birthday we're celebrating, let's not forget that. And let's ask ourselves what He would wish for most, then let each of us put in our share. Loving kindness, Warm hearts, a Forgiving spirit, a Generous Life. All shining gifts which make up God's peace on Earth."

That's really touching, heralde. It's got me thinking of "In the Bleak Mid-Winter," which is one of my favorite carols.

"What can I give him, poor as I am...
If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb...
If I were a wise man, I would do my part...
What can I give him...give my heart."

We need to stop and think about what's really important this season, to stop freaking out over this, that and the other - or as someone we know put it, "to stop rushing, stop trying to control things..."

Oh yeah, my High School choir sang that one year! And I'm reminded of two of my favorite renditions of "Little Drummer Boy." The Animaniacs and also a duet with David Bowie and Bing Crosby, lol.

I like that song because it's not about buying fancy gifts, but using your own talents that you enjoy.

Wow, Richard just shows up in the oddest places, even in a Facebook comment, hehe:

Richard Hunt brought Scooter and Kermit to my classroom in 1st grade. It was possibly the best day that decade ever saw.

Wow - when and where was this?

I'll bet those kids were over the moon when they went home that day - two of the famous Muppets, and one of the guys who works with them, taking time off from a busy shooting schedule to spend time with them. And Richard, of course, must have really been in his element: one puppet on each arm, and a whole group of kids sitting in front of and around him.

And of course, at least one of those kids still remembers it years later: "It was possibly the best day that decade ever saw."

Good question! I just came across this random comment on a Facebook page.

I know, I love the way the user describes it. Just reading it makes me smile because that's how I probably would have felt too. It's like when you see your favorite band in person; everything feels right with the world.

I love how Richard felt comfortable performing other characters, even one of Jim's most important, which might be quite intimidating. It's like he knew how much the kids wanted to see Kermit too and wanted them to have the full experience. In that way he really was a fan as much as he was a performer I think and part of the larger Muppet spirit.

Oh, yeah - most of those kids would probably be more familiar with Kermit. But I'll bet a number of them were just as familiar with Scooter. And besides, having two different characters such as Kermit and Scooter opens up all sorts of possibilities for a really good double act.

I just hope that the school scheduled Richard's appearance for towards the end of the day or something; it would have been a real downer for those kids to immediately go back to doing spelling tests and math worksheets and all that stuff, after coming nose to nose with the Muppets.

Yeah I think the teachers could pretty much forget about doing anymore work if it had been done in the middle of the day, lol.

I know if I had been there I would have felt like the Muppets' personal friend for the rest of MY life, hehe.

Tough Pigs posted this brief review of the Sesame Street Gang book. Intriguing!

Davis shows us right away that for as many uplifting effects the story has, there is just as many upsetting. Street Gang is bookended with stories about death, as the end of the book deals with the inevitable passings of Jeff Moss, Jim Henson, Joe Raposo, Jon Stone, Northern Calloway, and Richard Hunt. As a Muppet fan, I’m sad to revisit this part of Sesame history, but I’m ecstatic to see their stories written with the brutal honesty they deserve.

I really am hoping that I get this book for Christmas even thouhg it comes out the day after.

It just reminds me of the behinds the scenes clip where bob was asking some children that were on the show witch character from the Muppet show was their favorite. And the Kids were saying the Kermit and Miss Piggy were. You couldn't necessarily ask kinds that today because they might not know who they even are.
